Default I got 2 questions

How come we never saw Larry's father?
How old was Larry's mother? She seemed a little old to be his mother.

it was only explained that Larry's father was "out of town" from time to time so it implied he had an away job and that it didn't allow him the time to raise his children.

as for the second question, her age was never a question approached directly. it is assumed though that she is around 50. keep in mind that a 50 year old then looks like today's 60 year old, 60 year olds then look 70 now, etc.

And they pull me behind, as I let off the pedal.
Why should I divide what feels so right?
Is this where I want to lay?

I think he was the manager of the Cincinnati Reds as Mrs. M was always saying that he was in Cincinnati.

Default Larry's Dad

We did see Larry's dad very, very briefly in the episode about Beaver playing a canary in the school play. Father and son Mondello were backstage among a crowd of parents and children. I don't know how old Larry's mother was but I think Larry's mom and dad LOOKED old enough to be his grandparents.

Mrs. Mondello looked "old" - but if she was 50 and Larry was 8 when the series started, that means she gave birth to her pride and joy when she was 42! Heheheh!

And didn't Larry have a little brother or sister? That means Mrs. Mondello was even older when she gave birth to Larry's sibling! Mrs. Mondello looked "old" but I don't think we were supposed to believe she was in her 50s.

At different times in the series Larry mentioned having an older sister, a big brother and a baby nephew.

I never thought that Larry's mom looked "too old" to be his mother. My mom comes from a family of 8 brothers and sisters and my youngest aunt was about Larry's and Beav's age and obviously my grandma was about Larry's mom's age. At the time also, my oldest uncle had at least one of his kids by then. In fact my youngest aunt is only 11 yrs. older than me so I guess it didn't seem as strange to me about Mrs. Mondello being too old to be Larry's mom.

Larry had an older sister. Larry and Beaver snooped through her diary.

Really? I thought she looked too old to be the mom of an 8 year old. But whatever her age she was obviously June's social inferior.

Madge Blake, who played Mrs. Mondello was born in 1899. Leave It To Beaver came on the air in 1957 and she didn't appear on the show until 1958. Whatever age they had intended her to play didn't matter as in real life she was 59 years old. No wonder she looked too old to be Larry's Mom.
