Default Good Day Live - Canceled

Fox's Twentieth has canceled its daily syndicated talk show, Good Day Live, effective next month, ending a difficult journey for a program spun off three seasons ago from a local morning show on a Fox station in Los Angeles.

The final broadcast will air March 18, Fox said in a brief written statement issued late Friday. Fox has yet to determine what will run in place of Good Day Live.

Fox tried to salvage the syndicated Good Day Live this season by bringing in new talent.

Its ratings showed some improvement, but not enough to keep the show on the air. It posted a 0.9 average household rating in the season through Feb. 13, placing it 134th among 182 syndicated shows ranked by Nielsen. And it scored only a 0.5 rating among women 18-49, an important demographic for advertisers on daytime TV.

"While the program has displayed some growth in recent months with the
change of hosts, the economics dictated the necessity to cease production," Fox's statement said.

The decisions to cancel Good Day Live and shelve The Suze Orman Show come just a few months after a change in management at the top of Fox's U.S. broadcasting group.

At the end of last year, News Corp. Deputy Chief Operating Officer Lachlan Murdoch named Jack Abernethy as CEO of Fox Television Stations Inc., putting him in charge of the Fox station group as well as its Twentieth Television syndication arm.

Twentieth Television's primary mission is to develop programming for stations owned by Fox.

The Fox O&O group is one of Fox's most profitable divisions, covering 40% of the United States with 35 stations in 26 markets.

Twentieth Television is preparing to launch two daily first-run programs on the Fox group - A new version of A Current Affair is slated to debut in late March or early April, and a new court show, Judge Alex, will premier in the fall. It has also renewed Divorce Court for a seventh season.

The syndicator has yet to comment on the fate of its two other first-run
programs: Ambush Makeover, which has a 1.1 average household rating this season, and Texas Justice, which has been averaging a 2.0 rating.

Yeah, I hardly watch that show anymore. Especially since Dorothy and Jillian left the show last season. The newcomers really sucked no offense.

Miss Golden, Good Day Live was a syndicated show it started out in the summer of 2002 as a test markets (LA, SF, NY, etc.) Then in the fall of 2002 the show went national. So most of the Fox O&O stations had the show. It's on WB 59 and Fox 26 over here out in Fresno, CA but I'm taking that the soon to be cancelled show that replaced Donny Osmond's PYRAMID (2002-04) last season (Pat Croce: Moving In) will take the 9-10 AM slot since they swap Family Feud (Which is renewed for another season.) between both channels.

Will it still be shown in LA? And which girls will they have on? (I heard they still used the other 2 for local)

They never mentioned the local show today, when they made their big announcement.

Thanks. It was on of the few daytime shows I enjoyed. I loathe The View!

It didn't air on the local FOX station here. That might be part of the reason it was cancelled.

This show was the worst I ever seen. I'm glad its canceled. I was hoping this would happen because noone watched the show. I bet channels 3, 6, 10, 17, and 57 beat 29 in the ratings in the 12 to 1 PM slot daily because of this crap show.

I didn't like Arthel and Debbie much until recently. It seemed like they were finally getting it together.

Oh well, it was bound to happen. Good thing I still get to watch the local show, which to be honest with all of you, it isn't that great anymore. Jillian and Dorothy get along better than ever, but are completely resentful towards Steve and poke fun at the national show every opportunity they have.

The local show is completely unorganized, Dorothy mostly reads her stories directly from the tabloids, and since she is friends with some celebs, she tends to discriminate on who to report on. Jillian does absolutely nothing now. She completely quit doing her short feature segments, and doesn't even get up to do the "weather."

Once their contracts end, I'm sure they are all parting ways.

Starting Monday, March 21, WNYW here in NYC will replace Good Day Live with ...

12:00PM TBD
12:30PM Texas Justice (3rd airing!)

Maybe WNYW will air A Current Affair there (it starts on FOX-owned stations on March 21). Divorce Court already airs 3 times a day, so 4 would be pushing it. Other possible choices: MASH, Simpsons, and Judge Hatchett.

EDIT: It seems WNYW will air A Current Affair weekdays at 6:30pm starting March 21, replacing one Simpson episode. So 12pm is wide-open. Thanks to JTC for letting me know. Here are other changes in the NYC market starting 3/21, again thanks to JTC:
WWOR-
10-11AM Pat Croce (replaces Yes, Dear)
2-3PM Yes, Dear (replaces Pat Croce)
6:00PM Girlfriends (replaces Malcolm in the Middle)
6:30PM Malcolm in the Middle (replaces King of Queens)
7:00PM King of Queens
7:30PM King of Queens (replaces Girlfriends)
11:00PM Fear Factor (replaces Drew Carey and Girlfriends)
12:00AM Drew Carey (replaces Fear Factor)
12:30AM TBD - Girlfriends possibly
