Default My Thoughts on Will & Grace...

Hi, hows everyone doing. I just wanted to put my thoughts in about W&G since most everyone else is and about if they are going to end after this season. Here's what Im thinking...

I love WILL & GRACE. It is one of the best shows on television, epesically now with so many of the other great ones gone; like FRIENDS, FRASIER, & SEX & THE CITY. However, i too have noticed it has gotten 'stale' this past season, even last season. The problem I think is they have run out of new ideas and new insults towards each other. It has turned into takes off old jokes. The simplicity of the show is gone to. I think they lost the shows path when they did the whole Leo story arc. At first I liked it, but it just got to complicated. The show has gotten to big for its britches. I miss the day when Karen and Grace would be making fun of one another in her office. Do we ever really see Grace Adler Designs anymore. The show was so appealing because while the cast was goofy, we could still relate. Now Grace is always just kind of wherever Will is, Will has gotten extremely annoying, with his complaining and bickering all the time and his need for perfection. Karen and Jack have evolved way to much. Jack is what now, the president of Out tv. That was a huge jump. And Karen has to much plot, and not enough drinking going on, lol. While Karen is my favorite, she to seems annoying. I long for the shows first 5 seasons, but I also understand as the show progresses so does the stories and characters. However, like I said they pushed the button.

Now heres what I think should happen to the show. While it has gotten stale and probably should end this season, I want to see it return for one more. So we and they can have that 'finale' season they deserve. But not without a few changes. First off, if you want partners for Will & Grace, then give them partners, but give them both someone, so we can watch them go through new adventures as being couples, and couples together. Faze back Karen and Jack, so they are just there to make fun of the couples. But personally I think Karen needs her own spin-off. Her character has gone as far as it can go on the show. Now we need to see her in a new role. I really thought from the episodes when she was with John Gleese that that would be real good spin-off material. Especially if they could convince Minni Driver to return as the daughter. Then we could watch Karen be the drinking housewife who tells off Minni Driver off all the time. That would fun to see. Jack, im not sure what to do with Jack. Maybe keep him on the show, but faze him back, maybe have him fired from Out tv and go back to doing the Just Jack thing or the nurse thing. I thought the nurse thing was a good direction for him.

Anyway, those are a few, but long, thoughts of mine, lol. Everyone has different ideas and thoughts on the show and how long it should go for. In any light, i think one more season would be ok and still do fine in the ratings. We all have one thing in common, and thats that we love WILL & GRACE.

Thanks much for reading this, and as one of my close friends says, God Bless.

I think pretty much everyone here can agree with you about how dissapointing the show has been lately, especially last season. The general thought by most fans, including the article from Entertainment Weekly which hit it dead on is the writers are trying too hard to get jokes by changing the characters personalities. That has got to stop.

Now, my opinions on your opinions - I completely agree with you about the work enviornment. I really miss seeing Karen make fun of Grace's clothes. Debra Messing's facial expressions were always hillarious when the characters interacted like that.

I actually don't think introducing Leo and Grace's relationship/marriage was a death sentence for the show. I just think it would have worked better if we didn't see him all the time. We would know he and Grace were married, but the show could still focus on the four main charaters. Examples like Carla on "Cheers" and Charlene on "Designing Women," have shown that this can work.

One thing I completely disagree with you on is Jack becoming a nurse last season. I thought that was the dumbest idea the writers have come up with yet. Where is the comedy in that? Jack is supposed to be completely irresponsible, that's one of the things that makes him funny. Being a nurse doesn't work. Writers of the show even said themselves before this season started that making Jack a nurse was a funny thought at first but it just didn't work like they had hoped.

i pretty much agree with both of you. we used to all be able to relate to these people in some way but now the show has become a cartoonish parody of itself

You need to give the show a little credit, it has picked up this season and most of the bad storylines last year were due to Debra Messings absence. I admit that the show isn't what it used to be, and that the cast and crew seem to be running out of idea's to keep the characters fresh, but that is expected from a sitcom that has been on the air as long as Will & Grace has. Of course we all miss the 'old' Will, Grace, Jack and Karen, but these characters needed to develop, Karen can't insult Grace forever!

I disagree with those of you who dislike Will this season, I think his character has gotten more interesting and funny. He speaks his mind a lot more, which isn't nessacerily annoying. It is annoying however, that the writers can't keep Grace in a serious relationship. She has met so many great guys (Leo, Nathan...) in the past who seemed perfect for her, but the writers still haven't given her a chance. Maybe they don't want her to settle down until the end of the show's run, afterall, it would prevent her from being so close to Will. I am still very fond of the Grace this season though, Debra Messing seems to have the most energy out of everyone. As for Jack and Karen, there hyperactivity can get a little too much, so I think the writers need to come up with a way of toning this down, without the characters becoming 'boring'.

As for a new season, we are definatly in need of one to wrap things up. Although, I also think this needs to be the last if the show is going to go out with a bang.

I have noticed ever since the 5th season the great episodes and jokes have really gone done. It just isn't consistantly funny. Plus I have noticed ever since the episode where Grace got married the ratings have gone down. I think the whole marriage thing was a horrible idea and kind of ruined alot of the show. I would hope that Will and Grace return for one last season where it is highly promoted it is the last season. Also switch nights so that they are in a better time slot to help out the ratings.
