Wheeler Dealer Episode Question

Guys,

There is a scene that has Carol coming into the kitchen and she says something like:

CAROL: "Hummmm, Alice, what are you cooking? it certainly smells odd. Cabbage?

ALICE: "Nope"

Than she asks if it's another food item (can't remember exactly) Alice says, "Nope."

ALICE: "Boiled out carbarator al-a Greg."

Is that normal to boil out a carberator on the stove? What exactly does that do?

Yup, its been done before but only as a last resort. Cleaning a carb usually involves a carburetor cleaner and a wire brush but often if the "gunk" that builds up becomes too difficult to remove, boiling it would soften it up. Im just wondering where Greg came up with all those spare parts after he was done reconditioning that car. Perhaps Alice had the valid question...."What are those, spare parts for the watch"?

Usually "boiling out" a carburetor meant soaking the whole thing in a chemical bath overnight, though I suppose sometimes it was literally boiled.
