The reason why I didn't like the episode with Will's Father - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

Because I just felt that Will's character was too goofy for a serious storyline. I couldn;t even take Will seriously at the end when he was crying because I was so used to him being silly. So this is the only FP episode I don;t watch when it comes on.

I like this episode. I guess they wanted to show the dramatic side of Will and show viewers he had it in him to act dramatic.

Maybe if they had cut out hm crying at the end it would be alright

Well, unlike you, I believe that Will was very credible when he played that scene. It's one of the most touching moments, if not THE most touching moment of the entire series, and while Will may not be the best actor in the world, I think he brought a very believable vulnerability to his character. I think that, given the fact that at the time he was only a rapper who got lucky enough to have his own sitcom, he did a pretty good job, with both the comic and serious parts.

Shouldnt Lou's (Will's father) last name be something else besides Smith? Vivian #1 stated in one episode that her maiden name was Smith.

You know, I always wondered about that too. And then whenever Vivian and her sister's got together, they would say in one episode: "The Smith Sisters back together again."

The only reason for that could be that Will's mother was called Smith already and then Lou was also called Smith- but that seems unlikely.

I thought it was an ok episode- I thought it was believable but maybe a little bit overdramatic.

Yeah, I always wondered about that too. Then again, Lou and Vy could've had the same last name... Smith IS a common last name, you know.

youre not alone, i agree with u too. Out of all the episodes ive seen, he's only been serious in 3 or 4 episodes. one of them was when he was caught with sleeping pills in his locker and Carlton took them. Will showed his serious side by crying.

however, he was capable of being silly and serious. i just wished they had more serious storylines.

His crying seemed SO REAL when he was apologizing for the pills, but his crying when his father left was TOO FAKE and I was Laughing my a$$ off. I can still hear the statement, "How come he don;t want me man"-LOL

I was about to mention that same quote. I was laughing my ass off at it too. Overall, you are right. Will acted too goofy for a role like that. That's like JJ crying. Remember james' funeral, telling Thelma, "I'm still crying".

Beggin' to differ with you. I loved this episode. It was a very sad episode and I knowt that a lot of young men can probably relate to this ep. I know I can. I got misty eyed a couple of times myself watching this. Remember, Will had no positive male influence when he moved from Philly. I know how he feels and this is a very emotional episode for me.
