Kids kidnapped by their grandparents

Did they ever find the brother and sister who were kidnapped by their grandparents? This aired a long time ago and has been repeated occasionally on lifetime. They had an update with more recent photos of the kids that a neighbor had taken, but still hadn't found them. I don't remember the names.

This is the case of Kristi and Bobby Baskin who were kidnapped by their pyscho grandparents Sandra and Marvin Maple in 1989. I've talked about this case countless times here. It always got to me more than any other kidnapping case that was profiled. I even wrote a letter a couple years ago to Kristi and Bobby's parents, Mark and Debbie Baskin, letting them know that they are in my prayers and that I hope they can be reunited with their kids some day.

As of now, they still haven't been found. It floors me that the Maples have been able to hide so well all of these years. Today Kristi would be 24 and Bobby would be 23.

A nine-year wait continues for parents of abducted kids

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) -- The agonizing wait continues for Mark and Debbie Baskin, whose two oldest children were kidnapped by her parents nine years ago. There have been few solid leads since Christi Baskin, now 17, and Bobby Baskin, now 16, were taken by Marvin and Sandra Maple of Murfreesboro. Their disappearance came near the end of a nasty custody battle. The Maples claimed their daughter and son-in-law were members of a satanic cult that practiced animal sacrifices and bizarre sexual rituals. Investigators found no evidence the children were abused. The grandparents, who had been awarded temporary custody of the youngsters, fled about a week before the Baskins were to have regained custody. "We don't know so many things, not the least of which is where they are right now," said Mrs. Baskin, who lives with her husband in Barbourville, Ky. Even though the Maples told investigators the Baskins abused the children, the youngsters never corroborated the accusations. An attorney in the case said the youngsters told incredible tales that were not believable. "The things they were describing were fantastical. And each time I talked to them it got worse and worse," said Karen Hornsby, an attorney who was appointed to represent the children in the custody battle. Sgt. Anita Flagg of the Murfreesboro Police Department said she often is reminded of the case. "There doesn't come a time when I'll be out in the public, where there's a large group of people, and someone will ask me, 'What about those kids? Have they been found yet?" Flagg told The Tennessean. "That case still sticks with people. It was just an unusual one." Marvin Maple is now 62 and his wife is 60. Occasionally, FBI agents will call the couple to say they are working on a tip. The TV show "Unsolved Mysteries" featured the case in 1990. There is sketchy evidence to suggest the Maples and their grandchildren disappeared with help from an Atlanta-based "underground railroad" that hides children who allegedly have been abused. Eight years ago, Christi and Bobby were believed spotted at an apartment complex in California. But the occupants had moved by the time investigators arrived. "For our FBI agent's benefit, it's extremely difficult to work a case when you don't have any leads, or the leads are nine years old," Mrs. Baskin said. Mark Baskin, a one-time student at the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky., withdrew from the seminary after the kidnapping and took a job as an insurance salesman. The couple moved to Barbourville with their remaining son, Michael, now 15. "People ask us how can we go on knowing that our children are missing, and we say we don't have a choice," Mrs. Baskin said. "Life goes on. We have to continue."

Their names were Robert and Katharine Baskin. Their grandparents are Marvin and Sandra Maple.

Thanks for that information. I can't believe they were never found. All the more reason to have more Unsolved Mysteries type shows on network tv. Someone always knows something.

i would think they would still be alive considering their grandparents was the abducters.but sense they are now in there 20's i'm sure they would have contacted their parents by now.*sigh* wich leads me to believe their dead..........i hope i'm wrong though.

I have no doubt that they are alive. You have to realize that the Maples are compulsive liars - they were able to weasle their way into a judges chamber and convince the judge that the Baskin's had molested their children and were part of satanic cult. Obviously, neither of those facts were true, but the judge (being the moron that he was) believed them with no proof which started this whole mess in the first place.

I think the Maple's have told Kristi and Bobby that their parents are dead. That way, they have no reason to look for them any time in the future. Their heads have most likely been filled with so many lies from their grandparents for so long that they might not WANT to find their parents even if they know they are alive. Like Debbie Baskin said in the segment, it wasn't good enough for her parents JUST to kidnap her kids, they also had to destroy any love the children had for her by making them think she was some kind of a monster.

I also don't buy the threat that the Maples said they would kill the kids before seeing them returned to their parents. They just made that threat to scare the Baskin's into calling off their search.

Next month, it will have been 16 years since the Maples took Kristi and Bobby into hiding. How they have managed to hide from the FBI so well is beyond me. After such a long period of time, it's doubtful that the kids have found out that their grandparents are the villains here and what they have done. Unless the Maple's clear their conscience (which is very doubtful) I'm afraid the best hope for finding Kristi and Bobby will be if they sit down some day and see their own case on Unsolved Mysteries.

I continue to pray for the Baskin's every day. I wish their sad story could come to an end.

It's hard to believe that these kids haven't been found. After all the times their story has been on UM, AMW, etc. One of them, or one of their friends had to have seen it.
