Smile I was amazed how many TV and movies Scatman Crothers did

I was watching The Shootist last night and Scatman Crothers was in it. I reconized him from Chico and the Man. The only other thing I knew him from was The Harlem Globetrotters on Gilligan's Island, so I looked up what else he did at the IMDB and was amazed how much he did. He did cartoons he did movies and he did TV shows, I am glad he is on the Walk of Fame in Hollywood.

Scat was in a Starsk and Hutch episode called A LONG WALK DOWN A SHORT DIRT ROAD which also guest starred country singer Lynn Anderson. It's on the Starsky & Hutch Season 2 dvd boxed set...

http://www.tvtome.com/tvtome/servlet...-81/epid-32915

Episode Information
Episode Number 46
First Aired March 12, 1977
Writer Edward J. Lakso
Director George McCowan

Guest Stars: Lynn Anderson (as Sue Ann Grainger) Joshua Bryant (as Jerry Tabor [as Josh Bryant]) Dick Haynes (as Cal Claybourne) Scatman Crothers (as "Fireball") Ben Gerard (as Engingeer) Jack Grinnage (as Hotel Clerk) Marc Plastrik (as Technician) Walter Scott (as Redneck) Bo White (as Bellboy) Skip Young (as Bartender)

Synopsis
The dashing Detectives try to catch the deranged stalker who is hounding a successful country singer, and will only stop if she pays him $10,000. At first, the anonymous madman just issues threats via phone, but when he turns to murder, Starsky and Hutch must piece together just who the extortionist is and capture him before anyone else is killed...

Notes
# Lynn Anderson (country singer Sue Ann Grainger) is in real-life a singer, nowadays retired, and wrote and performed the songs heard in this episode.
# After Starsky and Hutch have seen off some troublesome rednecks, and Hutch warns them away, Starsky comments that he sounds like Dirty Harry; David Soul, of course, co-starred in 'Magnum Force' (1973), the second of the Dirty Harry movies!
Judging by Starsky's comment that Harry is a Cop over in San Francisco, it seems that Dirty Harry is a real-life Cop in the reality inhabited by Starsky and Hutch.
# Special Guest Star Scatman Crothers plays "Fireball". Only seen in one scene, playing (imaginary) baseball with Huggy, we don't learn much about his character other than he seems to be an ex-baseball star, who's possibly suffered some mental problems.
A talented musician, with countless classic movie credits to his name, Scatman Crothers also provided the voice of 'Hong Kong Phooey', in the cult 1970s Hanna Barbera cartoon series.
Incidentally, this is the last episode that Huggy Bear is seen in until the next season.

Quotes
As Starsky and Hutch see off some brawling rednecks:
Redneck: "Lousy Cops, what right've you got hanging around Sue Ann?"
Hutch: "Mess with the lady again, friend, you're gonna find out."
Starsky: "Hey... that's terrific. You sound just like Dirty Harry."
Hutch: "Dirty who?"
Starsky: "Harry. Cop over in San Francisco."
Hutch: "Oh."
- A nod to the Dirty Harry movies, in which David Soul (Hutch) co-starred in the second, 'Magnum Force' (1973)

I can't find the screencaps of Scat offhand but they should be here:

I liked him in "The Shining" and "Bronco Billy" and I liked seeing him guest star on "Sanford and Son"

That used to be my favorite cartoon.

Scatman was good in everything he starred in. I've always been a fan.
