Default Ashley Olsen suing National Enquirer

Quote:
US star Olsen seeks $40m damages

Ashley and twin sister Mary-Kate have built-up a successful brand
US actress Ashley Olsen is suing the National Enquirer magazine for $40m (£21m) in damages after a story alleging involvement in a drug scandal.
Olsen, a household name in the US with her twin sister Mary-Kate, says the paper is trying to ruin her career.

In papers filed to a Los Angeles court, the 18-year-old alleges the magazine implied she was using drugs, although it did not explicitly say she was.

The National Enquirer was unavailable to comment on the case.

'Innocent celebrities'

The lawsuit alleges libel and invasion of privacy by the tabloid in its 21 February issue, and is claiming punitive damages in addition to the $40m.

It said: "Freedom of the press is a valuable right, but it is not a license for gossipy tabloids to tar and feather innocent celebrities and destroy their reputations and businesses for the rags' profits."

The Olsen twins first shot to fame when they both played the character of Michelle Tanner in Full House.

Following a string of TV movies, the pair built up the Mary-Kate and Ashley brand, which adorns everything from clothes to toothpaste and has made them multi-millionaires.

The twins recently starred in Dennie Gordon's 2004 comedy A New York Minute and received a Hollywood star on the Walk of Fame in the same year.

I hope the stupid tabloid has to go out of business. Like the Olsens or not nobody deserves to be a victim of made up lies from papers like these. She deserves every penny she gets from them. I hope they have to pay so they cant do this to anybody else.

Cory.

I can't blame Ashley for wanting to do that. Enquirer and Star magazine have all kinds of false stories about them. They also said that Mary Kate wasn't anerexic, she was addicted to cocaine. I'd really be mad if someone did that to me.

From "Raising Dad" a short lived sitcom with Bob Saget of "Full House" fame.

Good....I'd do the same, it's getting annoying having lies written everywhere about celebrites!

I'm all for Ashley suing them...if its the truth. To me, her suing them is a sign that it is true but she doesn't want anyoen to believe it.

I like Ashley, I hope they aren't true but I just don't want to believe anything about the story yet

But how do you know it isn't true? Technically you can't take her word for it because if she does do drugs, she'll say she doesn't anyway.

Yea theres always the possibility that it is true. But considering the type of magazine that National Enquirer is and alot of the stories they publish there credibility is very little if they have any at all.

Yes! Ashley suing the National Enquirer was a mistake.
