I was just glancing over the episode list and noticed
February 15, 1989 Segments: .... the brutal 1980 killing of a Maine teenager.... I've probably seen it and just don't remember it, but does anyone remember this? Its always rare to see segments about people from Maine |

I've only seen this segment once, when it originally aired and I was only 7. Joyce was found in a field near her school, and at the end of the segment they showed a candlelight vigil that friends and family held for her on the 8th anniversary of her murder. I remember thinking about that segment for a long time after seeing it.

The segment aired yesterday (god those 80s hair-dos were awful) and there was no update however, I did some independent research and found that another murder was committed twenty two years later in the same town which for many brought Joyce's case back into focus - alas no suspect has been found although also mentioned was that the "paper mills" have now closed down (UM alluded that workers at the mill might have done Joyce in) -Here is a brief excerpt -
"For many townspeople, Rossignol's homicide brought back memories of Joyce McLain, a 16-year-old East Millinocket girl who was bludgeoned to death 22 years ago while jogging behind the high school. Like Rossignol, McLain was a good student and musician. Her killer was never found. "She had a very promising future ahead of her, like Dawn, and it does bring it back," said Thomas Tetu, interim principal at Schenck High School." |
