Episodes

Ep1: Back To School:
Matt, Sarah, and Emily all dread going back for the first day of school. Sarah is entering the 10th grade, as Emily is entering the 7th grade. Matt is introduced to the gorgeous new office assistant, Linda (Marcia Cross), Matt becomes attracted to Linda instantly.

Ep2: Weirded Out:
Sarah is weirded out by her dad's cheeriness (after Matt and Linda get to talking and resulting in going out for coffee sometime). Emily helps Sam with personal ads on the internet. During their first date, Matt learns Linda has a son (about Emily's age).

Ep3: Long Gone Lover:
Sarah learns Jared is moving to California to live with his dad, and doesn't even say good-bye to Sarah the day he leaves. Sarah is upset, and turns to her friends, Katie and Olivia for advice and support. Emily finds out about Sarah and Jared, promises Sarah not to tell Sam or Matt.

Ep4: A Bribe Here And There:
Matt and Sam try and try to bribe Emily into telling them why Sarah is even more distant and more dramatic lately. Emily refuses to tell them, even though the bribes would make her very happy-but she sticks to her word. Katie, Olivia, and Sarah decide to have a girls-night out and bash men, until they bump into three hunks at the mall.

Ep5: Dad's Dating!:
Sam slips and tells Sarah and Emily about Matt dating Linda, the girls want answers and have several questions for their dad about his new girlfriend. Matt regrets telling Sam. But arranges a time so, Matt's family can meet Linda and her son.

Ep6: Meet The Other Family:
Matt and Linda are anxious to see how their families get along together. Sam, Sarah, and Emily surprisingly like Linda and her son Chris (Martin Spanjers). Chris and Emily are in the same class together. Sam tells Matt, when Linda is not around, that he realizes how his son is attracted to her instantly.

Ep7: Fire Drill:
At the high school, someone pulled the fire drill. Fingers are pointing towards Sarah. Matt and Linda believe Sarah, as she confesses she did not do it. Yet another faculty member, Mr. Weaver (Tim Daly) accuses Sarah of doing it. Matt and Linda decide to comfront him about his accusation. Meanwhile, Katie and Olivia believe Sarah.

Ep8: Sick Day, Skip Day:
Emily pretends to be sick and tricks Matt into letting her stay home, as Chris does the same to Linda. After Matt, Linda, and Sarah leave for school, and Sam leaves for his daily socializing at the senior center, Chris and Emily plan to hangout, resulting in Sam catching them skipping school and eating at the food court in the mall. Sam tells Matt and Linda about the school skippers, resulting in the two kids being grounded. Yet Linda and Matt are glad their kids are getting along so well.

Ep9: Divorcing Parental Units:
Olivia is depressed lately due to her parents getting a divorce. Sarah lets Olivia stay over at her house until her parents' divorce is final. Everyone is happy with the idea, except Olivia's parents, Matt, and Katie-who is jealous that Olivia and Sarah are leaving her out cold. Olivia promises to move back with her parents, only if they stop fighting. Olivia eventually moves in with her parents.

Ep10: Dads and Daughters, Moms and Sons:
At Franklin Junior High, they are having a Father-Daughter, Mother-Son Dance. Matt and Emily are going to the dance, as are Linda and Chris. Chris and Emily walk in on Matt and Linda kissing in the hallway of the school. Meanwhile, Katie is throwing a party for her Sweet Sixteenth birthday party. Katie's parents are out of town, and left Katie's 21 year old immature brother in charge. At the party, alcohol is present--resulting in Katie, Sarah, and Olivia getting a little tipsy. Meanwhile, Sam goes out to dinner with an old friend of his deceased wife's, Helen (Rue McCalahan). Helen and Sam hit it off great and make plans for a second date.
