Have you ever noticed that's like, the only avenue name they use to mention things? "I was over on Grant Avenue, and I saw..."
"I was down on Grant Avenue, and Eddie Haskell came up, he said..." Is Grant Avenue the most famous street in Mayfield or something? Are there any other streets? Are the writers lazy? Is this a stupid topic? Am I boring you?

I agree with you. It seems every one and everything except the Cleaver home was located on Grant Avenue. The Elementary school was on Grant as well. Must've been a pretty long street.

One of the questions that will plague LITB fans forever is "Where is Mayfield?" Many fans suggest Ohio. There is a Mayfield in Ohio as well as a Shaker Heights, a place Ward mentions occasionally. Mayfield, Ohio also has a "Grant Avenue" - and that's just one more reason some think Mayfield, Ohio is the Mayfield in the series.

As for the age-old question as to where Mayfield is located: I think it was meant to be a generic midwestern town, with down-to-earth values and the perfect place to live. But I also think that one of the creators must have been familiar with the Mayfield/Cleveland area of Ohio to come up with so many locales that fit the area-----Mayfield, Shaker Heights, Madison, Euclid Ave etc. However, later in the series when the writers wanted to include Alaskan ships, oceans and surfboards, they blew the midwestern idea with the proximity of the ocean.

I think everyone associated with LITB knew it was the last season and perhaps let their imaginations run wild. LITB for me is forever set in the midwest - in spite of the surfboards and Alaskan fishing vessels of the last year. I don't accept these few "last year lapses" from everything that had been created through the first five years. The lapses are insignificant in the overall picture. To paraphrase an old saying: One surfboard does not a California Mayfield make. |
