there is an episode that i recall that has radar briefly sitting behind a drumset and doing a little playing. can anyone recall what the episode title and # are.

Let's see...

Radar showed off his drum playing skills in "Dear Dad...Again" (episode 18) during the "No-Talent Night" scene.
Also he can be seen playing with the visiting USO band in the season one finale "Showtime" (episode 24).

Radar also played drums in Bulletin board (like the congas or something i think)
