Default How bout this situation during the 1980-84 era

Richie and Ralph stay on the show and Fonzie and Potsie leaves after 1980. Would you have liked the 80-84 era MORE or LESS? I think I would have liked the eps in the 80-84 era a little better if Richie had stayed along with Ralph.

I just can't fathom there being a Happy Days without the Fonz.

Well the Fonz wasn't that great because the ratings fell after Richie left

I think the ratings would have fell further if the Fonz wasn't on it.

They did fall ever so slightly (less than a rating point), but they were already starting to go down before he left.

I thought the key to the show was the foursome.

THe Fonz and Potsie characters seemed like fish out of water without their sidekicks.

I am shocked the show lasted as long as it did after they left.

Fonz had no real connection. Neither did Potsie.

And the whole Joannie/Chachi angle did absolutely nothing for me.

It really was two different shows.

That was probably because Joanie and Chach had such minor roles on the show when Richie and Ralph was on the show. Giving Joanie and Chachi a spinoff was like Carmine from Laverne and Shirley getting his own show-lol

I will agree with you about Potsie. I really saw no reason for him to stay on the show. He really had nothing to do and the last couple years he really only made cameo appearances even though he was still listed as a regular.

Default No Richie sucked

No matter how important the Fonz was to the show it just didn't work without Richie. Gary Marshall even talked about changing the name and direction of the show based on the Fonz. He realized the same thing. It only worked with Richie and the Fonz. You could get rid of Ralph and Potsie and put anyone else in there. It needed the two guys up front.

I think the show could have still been in the top 20 without Fonzie.

With Richie, the show finished in the top 10 three times and top 20 two times

Without Richie, the show never finished in the top 10 and finished in the Top 20 Twice.
