Default Any references to FLO in 1980-81 season?

Just wondering can anyone remember if Flo was referred to the season after she left?

No she was never referred to. A matter of fact neither was Belle. That say a lot about Linda Lavin's insecurity about her position as star of the show. Both actresses had difficulty with Linda or anyone else on the show who appeared as a threat to her. It is so unfortunate because I am a huge Linda Lavin fan.

They did show flashbacks of her on the last episode.

It would be surprising if there had been no mention of Flo or Belle in the diner in a real life situation, because talking about friends and relatives that have gone is a way to keep them in your life.

However, TVshows operate on a NEED TO MOVE THE PLOT ALONG ONLY BASIS for the most part and therefore, unless a departing character has a special last episode that explains why they're leaving, one of two things will happen:

1. a quick explanation of why said character left is given, usually in the form of a conversation between characters still on the show

or

2. the character just dissappears without a trace, never to be mentioned again, which happens more often than you'd think!

there are exceptions to this rule, of course, but if what everyone is saying about Linda Lavin's insecurity and egotism was true, it's certainly understandable that she'd insist Flo and Belle were forbidden subjects after they'd gone, last episode flashbacks aside (BTW, did Belle have a flashback in that episode?)

I don't remember. Its been awhile since I saw that episode. They had a bunch of flashbacks so its possible. I remember they flashbacked to when Flo was driving that truck through the diner.

They never actually mentioned "Flo" by name in the final episode. They just showed some clips.

I remember back then reading that Linda Lavin and Polly Holiday did not get along. So that probably had something to do with it. it may have been gossip, who knows. "Flo" became a hugely popular character so that might have caused some friction. I remember seeing an interview with Linda and she was asked if she was still friends and kept in touch with the cast. She said she was still friends with Vera and Jolene and Mel (when he was alive) but she never mentioned Polly or Diane Ladd.

I was always disappointed that Flo was never mentioned again. It was like she never existed and she was such a huge part of the show. On the other hand they probably didn't want to remind everyone that she was gone.lol

It is too bad they could never get Polly back for a guest appearance or two.

Mel was the only character from Alice who made a guest apperance on the Spinoff-"FLO'
