FEBRUARY 13, 1967 (Peter Tork's 25th birthday!)
“The Monkees At The Circus” first aired @ 7:30 p.m. on NBC as the 22nd episode of The Monkees. The sponsor of the week was Kellogg’s™, and the songs of the week were “She” written & produced by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart and “Sometime In The Morning” written by Gerry Goffin & Carole King and produced by Gerry Goffin, Carole King & Jeff Barry. And if you tuned in and turned on this week, you would have seen these original commercials: Kellogg's Corn Flakes, Slicker Lip Polish by Yardley, Eyelighter by Yardley, Kellogg's Pop Tarts, Kellogg's Raisin Bran, and The Monkees for Kellogg's Rice Krispies. Trivia Footnote: This episode marked a return to the big top for Micky Dolenz, once Corky on TV's Circus Boy (NBC/ABC, 1956-58). FEBRUARY 13, 1971 (Peter Tork's 29th birthday!) “The Royal Flush”, the premiere episode of The Monkees (prod. #4701, aired on NBC September 12, 1966 and May 8, 1967), was repeated @ 12:30 p.m. EST on CBS, with 2 new songs added: "Apples, Peaches, Bananas and Pears," written by Tommy Boyce & Bobby Hart and "Good Clean Fun," written by Michael Nesmith. (This episode would be re-aired again on CBS a little over a full year later!) FEBRUARY 14, 1970 "The Devil And Peter Tork", Episode No. 52 of The Monkees (prod. #4737, aired on NBC February 5 and July 29, 1968), was repeated @ noon EST on CBS, with a new song added: "I Never Thought It Peculiar," written by Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart. Interesting note: this broadcast occurred on the day after Peter Tork's 28th birthday! FEBRUARY 17, 1973 “Monkee See, Monkee Die”, Episode No. 2 of The Monkees (prod. #4705, aired on NBC September 19, 1966 and May 1, 1967), was repeated @ 1:00 p.m. EST on ABC. FEBRUARY 17, 1997 Hey Hey It's The Monkees, a 60-Minute Special, first aired @ 8:00 P.M. (EST) on the ABC Television Network. This was the first network TV showing of the original Monkee quartet since the 1969 TV special 33 1/3 Revolutions Per Monkee on NBC. The songs featured were “You and I” (Micky Dolenz/David Jones), “Circle Sky” (Michael Nesmith), “Antarctica” (Bill Martin), “Regional Girl” (Micky Dolenz), and a medley of “Last Train To Clarksville”/”I’m A Believer”/”Daydream Believer”/”(I’m Not Your) Steppin’ Stone”; all were produced by The Monkees. 3 of the tracks, “You and I” (Micky Dolenz/David Jones), “Circle Sky” (Michael Nesmith), and “Regional Girl” (Micky Dolenz), were featured on The Monkees' 11th album Justus (R2 72542, released October 15, 1996). And, if you tuned in and turned on this week, these were the original commercials you would have seen: Ragu, Sears Auto Center, Kellogg's Rice Krispies Treats (!!!), Pantene Pro-V Conditioners, a promo for The Flintstones (Universal, 1994), Hyundai, Tylenol, Dove Soap; Target (Club Wedd); promos for Roseanne, The Drew Carey Show, Home Improvement, Spin City and Spy City, Nissan, Aveeno Ocean, promos for The World's Deadliest Volcanoes, Volcano (20th Century Fox, 1997), Fire On The Mountain, and Happy Birthday Elizabeth, Femstat 3, Wal-Mart, and Bisquick. FEBRUARY 19, 1968 "The Monkees In Paris" (a.k.a. "The Paris Show") first aired @ 7:30 p.m. EST on NBC as the 54th episode of The Monkees. The sponsor of the week was Yardley Of London™, and the featured songs were "Star Collector" written by Jerry Goffin & Carole King; "Love Is Only Sleeping" written by Barry Mann & Cynthia Weil; "Don't Call On Me" written by Michael Nesmith & John London; and "Goin' Down" written by Diane Hilderbrand, P. Tork, M. Nesmith, M. Dolenz & D. Jones; all produced by Chip Douglas. Trivia Footnote: This was the only episode of The Monkees in its entire second season with Bob Rafelson at the director's helm, as well as the sixth overall and last. FEBRUARY 19, 1972 “Monkees A La Mode”, Episode No. 24 of The Monkees (first aired on NBC February 27, 1967), was repeated @ noon EST on CBS, with a new song added: "Oh My My," written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim. |
