The only thing I can figure is that sometimes the affiliates are in the market to buy a product and the parent company has to send them something to get them to want to buy it. Your local NBC affiliate doesn't HAVE to run all of NBC's programming, just a percentage of it in order to be affiliated with the parent company. This is how some local affiliates get away with not broadcasting a show or even one episode of a show they find particularly offensive. I never knew they had seperate episodes that were just made for marketing purposes. I see from the title on the script itself that these are just sketches, or small bits of shows, they wouldn't be entire shows. And the network might have only sent the affiliates a script, not an actual filmed show. These, again, would be to promote the show to NBC's affiliated stations. The thing that puzzles me about this one is that CATM was already on the air a year by this time and proved a marketable commodity. I dunno if the network had to sell this one each year??? Or maybe some affiliates never aired the first season and were being wooed into picking up the second season. I would think that copies of the first season's shows would have been enough to sell the show to those who hadn't aired it, but I dunno. The world of network TV back then, and even now, is a very complicated place. As for the question about it being genuine, I dunno, it does look like the real deal tho.

Anyone have any idea how we could find out if such a sketch was recorded and where we might find a copy? Also makes you wonder if maybe there are more of these floating around somewhere........................
