WHAT THE HECK?

A Newport News teacher is facing charges after police say he allegedly made a 10-year old student stand outside in freezing temperatures for nearly 30 minutes without a coat.

Officials say the 4th grader at Riverside Elementary School was wearing a short sleeve shirt in temperatures approximately 30 degrees, with the wind blowing between 15-20 miles per hour, when he was required to stand outside for disciplinary reasons on the afternoon of January 28.

Jason Matthew Kriner, 27, of the 200 block of Evergreen Drive, was arrested Thursday night.

He is charged with one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Kriner was released on his promise to appear in court on February 24, 2005.

Police say the victim reported the incident to school administrators, who then contacted Social Services. Social Services ultimately notified police

Whoa. That's whack. Although I was an annoying kid, I probably would have enjoyed standing out in the freezing weather. I still walk around without a jacket if it's under 40 degrees outside.

I had a teacher in highschool who made a kid spend the whole lesson outside,and it was the hottest day of the year.He wasn't allowed to stay inside with the air conditioning like everyone else.

I hope that experience doesn't bother the 4th grader for a long time. He/she could develop the flu, pneumonia or other side-effects that could make him/her sick a long time.

The kid and his parents should have the teacher stand outside the school building naked for more than an hour in much colder temperatures and see how he feels!

I hope the kid's gonna be all right.

That's just crazy. If a kid has been misbehaving I can see sending them to the hallway or the principal's office, but outside in freezing weather, that is insane.
