I've been watching some of my favorite episodes over the last couple of days and the thing that I'm noticing is the clothes the women are wearing. For example: In "Long Night's Journey Into Day," I love the coat Millie is wearing as she is leaving to go on the fishing trip. I would love to have one just like that! And in "The Two Faces of Rob," (which I need to put on the 'Scenes that Make You Laugh Out Loud' thread), I love the hostess outfit that Laura is wearing when Rob comes home from work and finds her in a "romantic mood" and an authentic Italian dinner! Wouldn't my husband love it if he came home and I was wearing that outfit! In "I'm No Henry Walden," I love the gown Laura wears to the party, when Rob says she's dressed for a coronation. Anyone else have any favorite outfits?

Oh, yes, Lolac. The "fashion" portion of the Van Dyke series is something I've noticed (and always liked) as well. (Even though I'm not a woman. )

If you've noticed, there are some fashion "statements" that perfectly "mirror" the "Jackie Kennedy-esque" look of the early-'60s era.

Such as the great-looking outfit that Laura bought to get married in again during the ep. "Very Old Shoes, Very Old Rice". I've often wondered what that outfit would look like in color. It has a definite "Jackie" look to it, right down to the "pillbox" hat that accompanies the outfit.

I love Laura's wardrobe!! I wish I could find some of her clothes in stores. I think my favorite dress is the one she wears in "The Two Faces of Rob" - when he stands her up. Another favorite is what she wears when she goes to apologize to Alan Brady in "Coast to Coast Big Mouth".

There should be a store called "Laura Petrie", like Ann Taylor.

Yes, Lolac!
Chicago's a huge fashion town! I'm somewhat of a fashion buff myself, and I've even wanted to start this thread, but like David, being a male, I always thought it was a little too "Queer Eye" for me do !
But Laura and Millie! I love their outfits! One of my favorites of Millie's is in "The Brave & The Backache," ep # 82, where in the openning scene she wears a flared tweed skirt with nice big buttons going down either side and a fitted pullover turtleneck. Incidentally, the Maltese Cross broach that Laura is wearing in that same scene really sets off her outfit too!
One of my favorites of Laura's is the cute little number she wears in act 3 of "The Meershatz Pipe," ep. #2. The scene where she restrains Rob on the bed and asks him why he can't outwrestle a 112 lb. woman. It's a horozontally striped, sleeveless tunic with a drawsting waiste that buttons in back, and fitted slacks that zip in back. I'd love to see that in color!
Most of the men's clothes are cut really nicely and have that cool, "60s jazz" look to them. I like when Rob wears the black, button down sweater with the shirt, tie, and gabardine slacks, as I sometimes do myself. And yes, I stole it from him . I even have a springtime combination with a mustard yellow sweater and genuine vintage chartreuse trousers. Killer!
I love sixties fashion and I even have a couple of two-tone "retro" style casual shirts with the fancy stitched design down the front. I feel so "60s" when I wear them! They look great in the summertime with my dress slacks and a thin-soled leather shoe.

Nice thread, Lolac!

Steve

A couple of my favorite Laura outfits are the suits she wore in My Part-Time Wife. Let's not forget Rob in his dark suits. Very handsome!
