Patricia Heaton is not Jewish. She is from my hometown of Cleveland. Her father retired from the Plain Dealer Newspaper as a sports writer. Her brother has an entertainment column. (which is not entertaining) He is helping her write a book.

On some of the episodes her father will be mentioned or Cleveland. Ray was up for an award on one episode and one of the other nominee names was Chuck Heaton her father. Kind of an insider joke.

She's Irish, at least on her dad's side of the family. You're right -- Michael's "The Plain Dealer" column in the Friday entertainment part is boring.

She's Irish Catholic on both sides of her family.

No. Patricia Heaton is Catholic. Maybe Irish Catholic. Heaton is against the death penalty and abortion, one a liberal position and one a conservative position.

There are two Jewish actors in this show. Brad Garrett and Doris Roberts. Doris had the Jewish mother down to a tee. Probably the show should have been written that Frank (played by Peter Boyle who is Irish/Italian) married a Jewish girl (Marie).

It would have been funny because there were a lot of those relationships, especially in the New York area. To me, the family was sort of Jewish in the first place, but this is very similar to Italian families. Both Jewish and Italian families tend to be loud, direct, mince no words, and if they are, very loving to one another. The senior Barones were very old school that Ray was the oldest son and that he bears the name and the responsibility of the family.

But no, Patricia is not Jewish.
