Here are my thoughts:
1)King Crimson. In 1984 they played in Montreal, and the music was released on their double-disc Absent Lovers recording. Tunes such as "Man With an Open Heart" and "Dig Me," both of which are on the 1983 Three of a Perfect Pair studio recording, are better. 2)Pink Floyd: according to the www.allmusic.com website, the four songs on the live half of Ummagumma are better than their studio versions, and I agree (1). 3)The Talking Heads: they released the Stop Making Sense film and soundtrack in 1984, and the songs they performed from their 1983 album are better live. 1: In 1995, they released the double-CD live recording Pulse. "Astronomy Domine" from their first album is on this, and it's the same as the studio version, but better. The live one on Ummagumma is also really good, but it's longer. |

I forgot this one: Cream's "Sleepy Time Time." The live version on Live Cream is better than the one on their debut album Fresh Cream.

I used to dislike Concert media because
1) Songs not the same as on studio album 2) Vocals usually LOW and it doesnt sound good. But I have gotton some excellent/beautiful concerts 1) Judas Priest - UNLEASHED IN THE EAST (Record) 2) RUSH - Exit stage left (8 TRACK/RECORD (The 8 track is better (Vocals a bit louder))) 3) Crosby stills and nash - 4 way street (8 TRACK) 4) Allman brothers band at fillmore east (8 TRACK/CASSETTE/RECORD) - This is a goregous concert!! 5) Moody Blues Caught Live (RECORD) 6) DEEP PURPLE - MADE IN JAPAN (8 TRACK) 7) HOT AUGUST NIGHT - Neil Diamond (8 TRACK/CASSETTE) 8) FOUR TOPS - LIVE AND IN CONCERT (8 TRACK) 9) Grateful dead - THIER 1971 CONCERT (RECORD) 10) Mountain Live (RECORD) All these have beautiful vocals

Well, one of my Middle school Teachers said something voiie,"In Studio, this is who the Musicians REALLY are. In live Concerts, they try hard to sound REALLY good. They try to sound better than their REAL selves, the Studio Versions. It sometimes works, it sometimes doesn't."

I usually prefer the concert versions, since the studio versions typically sound too sterile for my tastes.
However, I like the Foo Fighters' studio version of Everlong a lot more. Their studio version (and video) feels very deep, but the way the band performs it in concerts these days just turns it in a "buttrock"-style anthem. |

I'm not a big fan of "live" versions of classic rock tracks. Studio versions IMO sound better.
