Default "Desperate" Spin-Off?

On tonight's Access Hollywood they mentioned that Marc Cherry said there might be a spin-off in the works, but the ladies seemed to know nothing about it, could Marc be trying to mislead us?

He said it's a couple of years away though last week.

Really? This is the first I've heard of this. They made it sound like it might be happening soon

There's supposed to be some kind of companion show in the works "Soccer Moms" I think, but I haven't heard much about it. It's not even been picked up yet.

I remember hearing about Soccer Moms, but that's not a spin off of DH, If I remember right TVGUIDE mentioned SM and said that networks are trying to copy the success of Desperate Housewives, but ABC is copying their own show with a show called Soccer Moms. They made it sound like it will be out next season. So I guess Soccer Moms might be like DH, but not a spin off

Here's what the new tvguide says

Who's Getting Spun Off of Housewives?

It was as inevitable as Mrs. Huber's Murder:

Desperate Housewives creator Marc Cherry has had informal talks with ABC about giving his monster hit a sister soap. "The network has saved an area[on the schedule] for me when I'm ready to write it" he reveals. "But it's going to take me a couple of seasons before I have the energy-slash-time".

At least the scribe's idea is ready to roll. He came up with the concept even before Housewives premiered. "I knew another angle on telling the stories of the people in this neighborhood," the recent Golden Globe winner says, cryptically acknowledging that Housewives 2 would focus on a "segment of Wisteria Lane's population...but set somewhere else."

Like, maybe a dorm? The most popular spin-off theory has Cherry sending one of the Housewives' teens to college. But TV Analyst Steve Sternberg of Magna Global USA believes "it makes more sense to do it with a main character. Once the show has been established as a hit, you can afford to lose one of the female leads."

What does ABC have to say about these Wives tales? "If Marc has a brilliant idea, we're going to be open to it," says Stephen McPherson, President of ABCV Primetime Entertainment. "But it's a long way off." In other words check back when things get desperate.

Soccer Moms sounds very interesting. ABC has hired Kristin Davis ("Sex and the City") to star as one of the two soccer moms. This is a long way off still, but I bet they would air it at 10pm Sundays or Thursdays at 9pm, if it makes it on the air.

I like Kristen Davis a lot. If they make the show, I hope it works out for her.

I say hold off until they can send Susan's daughter (I forget her name) off to college.

Thumbs down RE: Spinoff....

I think it is a rediculious idea...Why can't they just have a hit show with viewers that love to watch without having to turn everything into spinoffs.....That gets really frustrating......I really hope they don't do it, save the air time for something else...I love watching DH's myself, but a spinoff no thanxs..... JMO .......

It'll happen sooner or later. Look what NBC and CBS did with Law And Order and CSI. Whenever a hit show like this happens a spin-off isn't far away.

Ya, but soccer mom(if that's what they are going to call it) come on now... I mean when their kids go away to scholl they still show them once in a while, on the phone or holidays...I mean as it is they don't have a big part in the show cause about Desperate Housewives..... The kids enough shows of their own, IMO so I think they should just leave well enough alone.....

Soccer Moms is NOT going to be a spin-off of Desperate Housewives. It will star Kristin Davis and has nothing to do with DH. ABC is trying to put it on air this fall, if all goes well. There will be no DH spin-off for another few years, if any happens.

It's supposed to be a companion series, meaning the same people who watch DH should watch Soccer Moms.
