My thoughts on American Dreams.....

Hi, I'm new!

I still watch "American Dreams" but for me, the thrill is gone. The gimicks have gotten stupid: Roxanne bringing her "friend" to try out for Bandstand and the friend ends up being Linda Ronstadt?? Enormously popular people performing in the SAME Philadelphia coffee shop before hitting the big time? They've done this too many times to count--last week it was Janis Joplin.

The Vietnam sequences dragged down the show last season, big time. Nearly half the airtime was devoted to Vietnam. I think that's what killed this show, really. People Watch "American Dreams" for escapism and for the wave of nostalgia--not for long, drawn out war/battle sequences even though that was part of the 60s.

Lastly, the characters of Roxanne and Meg have outgrown their usefulness. They are irritating to watch. Roxanne has turned into a $lut and Meg's a beyotch. They can get rid of these two characters and inject immediate, new life into the show. I love the parents, the younger daughter, and the younger son. They should show even more of the Walker family (why not more about Civil Rights??). It's the supporting characters that make this show great--not Meg, Roxanne, and American Bandstand. If they move away from those two gals and all the music gimicks, they just might breathe new life into the show, IMHO.

I wish you the best of luck. I've only noted where our ratings have gone......up and down. And the times they've gone down I get my head chopped off for just being concerned. The times they've gone up I'm left alone. As if I have anything to do with ratings.

You merely suggest the deletion of certain characters and voice your opinion.

I foresee an ONSLAUGHT from the "regulars".
Don't take it personal. You supposedly are only trying to help. Some might not see it that way.

I looked up last Sat. night's ratings on tv.zap2it.com and found this:

"NBC swept the evening with a different Dick Wolf procedural taking each hour. At 8 p.m., "Law & Order" original flavor delivered a 6.0/11 for first. FOX was second with the 4.4/8 for two episodes of "COPS." ABC wasn't far off in third with "America's Funniest Home Videos." On CBS, "Wickedly Perfect" did a 2.9/5 for fourth.

"Law & Order: Criminal Intent" delivered the 9 p.m. hour for NBC with another 6.0/11. FOX stayed second with a 4.4/8 for "America's Most Wanted." ABC's "Desperate Housewives" repeat did a 4.2/8 for third, holding off CBS' "CSI: Miami" repeat.

The night's final hour went to NBC with a robust 7.1/13 for "Law & Order: Criminal Intent." A second repeat of "Desperate Housewives" moved ABC to second. CBS' "48 Hours Mystery" was third with a 4.8/9."

So it looks like NBC might be trying to use Law and Order's success on Sat. to improve their standing on Sunday. It is their business and networks do have to put on quality shows while at the same time figure out what people want to see. There must be hard decisions to make at times.

We had 3 seasons. A lot of shows never make it past season 1.

Thanks for watching the show. I know everyone appreciates it. Just to give a little insight, the show tries to be as accurate as possible, even though at times it takes some creative license. Jojo playing Linda Ronstadt is a very accurate possibility. At the time, Linda was a part of a group which had their first record out. So with Roxanne and Luke trying to manage talent, its possible that she would have had Linda in for an audition. Especially since her group never was as prominent as she became in her solo career.

The Lair is used to showcase musical talent in a different way from American Bandstand. Performers are not portraying anyone in particular. Toby Lightman, Joss Stone, Alanis Morrisette, Gavin Degraw, Ben Taylor and others are portraying unknown artists. Save for Gavin Degraw and some others performing in upcoming episodes, they all performed their own songs.


Get rid of Meg and Rox.....hahahaha! The 60's are about youth and rebellion and thinking for yourself. But I agree they should show more of the Walker family.
