....George Lopez' Showtime standup movie "Why you Crying?". Mariposa watched it last night and said it was wonderful. She told me he even mentions Freddie near the end of it. I was watching a movie on Comedy Central today and it mentioned that it would be on again tonight at 8pm (EST). I want to watch him. I thought some of you might like a heads up about it.

I seen that several months ago when Showtime premiered it. OMG, it was so funny and very touching that George Lopez mentions Freddie Prinze. It was short and sweet of him to mention Freddie. I was touched by his comment. I am so glad I have that saved on my DVR still. I'm going to watch that again!
For those who will be able to catch it again. It is very funny and well worth the 60 minutes! Thanks for the reminder Luckymama!

Macca, he said that since he first saw Freddie when he (George) was 11, he wanted to be a comedian. He prefaced it with a first very funny, gradually more serious summing up of the whole show's point--that anyone, even a poor Mexican boy, can make it if he has a dream...and that all those in the audience should help their own children embrace their dreams!

The last actual words he spoke were Freddie's name. He said only 3 Latinos had ever carried a sitcom in the history of TV: Desi Arnaz ("I Love Lucy"), Freddie Prinze, and...(he simply made a gesture toward his own chest with both hands--similar to what Freddie used to do--and shrugged)!

Pitooey, you are going to love it! His comedy is so funny as well as the ending when he mentions Freddie. That is one of the many reasons why I began to watch the George Lopez show. His comedy act is interacted in the show. I watch it each week and think sometimes.... I remember that one, and that one. Enjoy it's a hoot!

I never realized how physical GLO was in his comedy. OMG we were laughing till we cried here. One of the routines he did was something he kinda borrowed from Freddie, it was near the end. He was talking about how different kinds of people are starting to recognize him. OMG I remember when Freddie did that bit. I know George did it to honor Freddie. And then when he mentions about how he when he was 11 and saw Freddie and knew he wanted to be a comedian, I about cried again. And then, as Mariposa said, he said there were only three Latin comedians sucessful on TV, Dezi, Freddie and the implying himself when he pointed, with that silly face he makes, at himself. Doesn't seem right really, that there have only been three. At least we are getting to see more latin actors in dramas lately. Two of my newer favorite shows, Cold Case and Without a Trace, both have latino investigators in them, and L&O had Benjamin Bratt on it for a while. So I guess there is hope that more latinas and latinos will be afforded the opportunity to show the world their talent!

G Lo's bit was a sort of combination of all Freddie's recognition observations. As you remember, there was the part that Tylersmistress described--re black people--where they took FOREVER to approach him, then got the name wrong. There were also the parts re old ladies staring and giggling and pointing, and re Freddie's "own" people, the Puerto Ricans. Well, G Lo spoke of his own people, Mexicans, staring at him and whispering between themselves for a long time, then one coming up and asking, "Aren'tchu Joe Lopez?" George would answer, "No, I'm GEORGE Lopez", and the one who had asked would turn to his friends and yell, "See, I tol' ju eet was'n heem!"

ROTFLMAO!

The man is a genius............ I saw the show last night.

Put it this way I didn't empty my bladder in the start of the show. As I sat there watching G-Lo in all his glory I was laughing so hard for a good 10 minutes then my stomach started to hurt and then OMGoodness...................... I had to run to EL BANO............. (Bathroom) I had to put the machine (VCR) on pause. I thoroughly enjoyed the show. I saw when he acknowledged Freddie with his talk of the people recognizing him and not being sure if it was him.

One thing I noticed. I wondered why he didn't acknowledge Paul Rodriguez. I know Paul came after Freddie.... Paul has never acknowledged Freddie. Maybe that's why.

Paul was on the E! special about Freddie, and he did say very nice things about Freddie on that show. He acknowledged Freddie as breaking the groundwork for Latino's in standup. I know G Lo mentions at the end of his standup show that there were only three successful Latino's on TV: Desi, Freddie, and then he points to himself. I know Paul Rodriguez was on TV but his show never took off like G Lo's did. Paul is a great standup comedian in his own right. I think Paul is known more for his movie and standup work than anything on TV tho.

And BTW, I know there are more Latino's finding success on TV these days, but they are all in the area of dramatic shows, most notably in the crime genre (most notably Benjamin Bratt and Esai Morales, but more reciently Enrique Murciano of Without a Trace and Daniel Pino of Cold Case). I guess George was thinking of comedy and of comedians who had a major role in a TV show. I know Desi was more of a musician, but he proved he could hold his own against his comediane wife. They were co-stars of "I Love Lucy". And Freddie had come into his own as a co-star of CATM by the middle of the first season.

Thanks for reminding me Lucky... I haven't seen the E Hollywood special in a while and I forgot that Paul was on that show.

Now........... Didn't Paul Rodriguez star in a sitcom long ago. It was about a hispanic family? But it didn't quite make it. I think it had like 10 or 15 episodes. Does anyone remember the show?

Yes, it was called a.k.a. Pablo , and I think it was a similar premise to George's show, a family show. And yes, it didn't last too long. (1984)
