Are there any books you'd like to see made into a film?

A few years ago I read a great book called "The Dress Lodger" which would make a great movie.
Also, there is this book I read a long time ago in High School called "The Last Western," which is this sweeping religious epic kind of story, that would make a great movie or miniseries. |

A good version of "The Beach", because that is one of the greatest books ever written.

I'm in the middle of a huge Jane Austen reawakening. I'm reading all the sequals and continuations that have been published on her books, and I really want to see Mansfield Revisited turned into a film. There's real potential in that - also in Sanditon, which I heard a rumor they were going to make, but that seems to have fallen dead. There's already been a really bad TV movie made of Northanger Abbey, but that book really deserves so much better. It's my favorite book by my favorite writer, and it could be a real winner. How about they fix Northanger instead of remaking Pride and Prejudice again? Grrr.

Wicked by Gregory Maguire became a Broadway musical, but I'd love to see it turned into a film. Mirror Mirror looks like it could be a great movie. Son of Rosemary by Ira Levin was a wonderful book, and that is just begging to be turned into a film - Mia Farrow can still play Rosie

Agree with you 100% about Son of Rosemary Liza. Mia Farrow was perfect in Rosemary's Baby, the sequel was dedicated to her by Ira Levin- she should be back as Rosemary! Unfortunately, a few months back it was announced the rights to Son of Rosemary and Rosemary's Baby were available, and have been bought to be turned into a miniseries! That's alright, as I'd love to see any incarnation of Son of Rosemary (even without Farrow, though it'd be a shame), but the people making it says that there would be extra story filling in the gaps between the 2 novels- that's wrong! In the 70' a tv-movie sequel called Look What Happened to Rosemary's Baby showed Andy as a teenager! Evil!
I love the musical Gypsy, but after reading Gypsy Rose Lee's memoirs, I think a realy biopic, following the book closely, would make a great film- would be great as a comedy still. |

I think Levin wrote the story specifically so that Mia could still play Rosemary, you know? A miniseries... interesting idea. They really shouldn't remake the original. Polanski's still directing, he could do the sequal and the two films would go together perfectly (course he couldn't film in the US, but that's a small price to pay). Don't like the idea of trying to fill in the gaps, the whole point was that we experienced it as Rosie did. Ah cripe, let's just hope they realize that. I have this new habbit now of whenever I read a book trying to cast it in my head. Mia as Rosie, I thought Richard Chamberlain would be great as Joe, and don't scream, but I actually really want to see Robby Benson play Andy! Seriously, I think he'd be a great choice! The man's such a wuss, but he looks perfect for the job, and I want to see if he could pull it off. If he couldn't, it'd at least be fun watching him try.

I thought Levin might've written the book hoping Mia would play Rosemary in a film version- but the book didn't get fantastic reviews (mainly because of the ending) and I suppose it would be difficult to make into a big-hit of a movie. I think the most complicated things for a studio in making the movie would be the incestuous moments (I found them unnerving in the book, as is intended) and the final moments, where Joe (I think that was his name) turns into Clark Gable (again it's been a while since I read the book- I'm almost sure it's Clark Gable though).
It's a pity- I wish someone would hurry up and make a movie of Son of Rosemary- it's crucial the movie is set in 1999- and Mia Farrow is getting older! The main reason it'd be good to see her playing Rosemary (even though she looks entirely different now) is to notice any similarities in her portrayal of young Rosemary and old Rosemary. |
