Default The extremes stage moms go to....

Okay,this is just disturbing.
Its one thing to dress your pretty young daughter in a floral kmart dress, and put some rollers through her hair, but nowadays, moms who enter their young daughters in child beauty pageants are going to the extremes to ensure their daughter takes home the crown.
Six year olds are having their hair tinted, their teeth whitened, their eyes made blue by coloured contact lenses, their legs shaved, fake tan applied, layers of makeup, and the most weird of the lot.....mothers are taping their daughter's chest with tape to give the illusion of cleavage! A 6 year old with breasts!
Mothers are also dressing their daughters in gowns costing into the thousands.
Does anyone else find this wrong?

Well, first, a note, there is a condition that exists called precocious puberty which causes children to go through the changes associated with puberty at incredibly young ages (5-7 girls, 7-9 boys). Said condition has become somewhat more common in the last 10-20 years, for various reasons.

Now, having gotten THAT out of the way: A lot of the time, these kids are a product of their mothers wanting to live their lives through their kids. They might not have won many pageants as a youth, or been entered into many, and they want their kid to succeed where they, in their minds, did not.
Unfortunately, many parents seem to be taking this to an extreme, trying any trick necessary to get their kid to win. This "by any means necessary" attitude is what is leading to the things you mentioned above.

I don't particularly care for beauty pageants anyway (though admittedtly I'm not the biggest opponent of the swimsuit part of the competition ), but to have kids of five and six glamoured up like people three to four times their age, all for some silly little trophy and a VERY minor amount of recognition? It's downright absurd. For cryin out loud, let kids be kids.

As a mother of 2 girls myself, I find this absurd and ridiculous.Even if I had the money, I would spend it on something more productive and fun than pagentry. I will never put my daughters through an experience like this.

I agree. In most cases,a little girl in a beauty pageant belongs to a mother who competed herself, and is living through her daughter.I guess some mothers look at their daughters and decide that their beauty could win them prizes and recognition, who knows.

Same here.I think they promote low self esteem and send the message to little girls and women i suppose, that beauty is everything. The sad thing is,in the world, its the attractive who seem to get ahead in life.so i guess thats true.

Yes. The worst thing in the world is a stage mom. They don't give a **** about their kids or their best interest. They live through their kids and accomplishments that they can do because they are still young. They claim they are doing it for the kids but that is the biggest load of bull I've ever heard.

When my sister was involved in IMTA, my mom said that the mothers there were so competitive. She said a lot of the kids there she could tell didn't want to be there. My sister had talked about being a model years before my mom pursued it. My mom never pushed anything, she let my sister do her own thing. All she did was support, but she said that the competitiveness of the other mothers there was ridiculous

the fake cleavage is stupid, but as for the cosmetics and gowns that's what you're supposed to do.

Living your dreams thru your child because your life sucked. I seriously despise that. LET THEM BE THEMSELVES. If they, at 6, come up to you and say, "Mommy, I wanna be a pageant princess, then whatever, but what the hell ever happened to being a kid??

When my cousin was younger, my aunt forced her to play about every sport available, even at the cost of her grades. I'm pretty sure she was trying to relive her lame childhood. Psycho bitch.
