Default Summary of JJ/Beth scenes in "Truth Be Told"

Rather long descritption of JJ/Beth scenes in Truth Be Told for anyone interested. Sorry if this is the wrong place to put this post.

JJ and Jack in the kitchen talking about JJ and Beth getting a house. Jack says you’re going to need furniture, JJ says we haven’t even started looking for a house. Jack says, yeah when you do, your mom and me, we’d like to help. JJ says ok, and asks if Johnny’s too young for a baseball and Jack says you had yours before you left the hospital.
Beth and Helen in the attic talking about the wedding. Beth says they want it to be small, and says she wants to have the reception…Helen finishes her thought and says in our backyard. Beth says if it’s not too much trouble and Helen says I was counting on it. Beth finds a necklace and says she wants to wear it, JJ gave it to her their senior year. Helen says it’s beautiful. Beth says she already spoke to the campus minister at U Penn but she wants Helen and Jack to meet him first. She says his name is Scott. Helen, a little skeptical, says alright, I guess I could meet Scott. Beth smiles and nods.
Family and Shelly at dinner, except Meg, and there’s the usual multiple conversations. Shelly’s talking about quitting her job at the Playboy Club, and then asks JJ if he’s excited about the wedding. He says we’ve been talking about it for so long I thought it’d never happen. Beth smiles and says “it’s happening.” Shelly says Beth what about your parents, they must be thrilled. Beth says they’re not invited. She tells Shelly it’s a long story, and Shelly says it’s none of my business. Patty, always the know-it-all, pipes in that, “Beth’s parents threw her out of their house when she got pregnant.” Beth smiles while Pete and Shelly chuckle.
After dinner, JJ’s helping Helen in the kitchen, and she asks if he’s met this minister Beth’s been talking about, Steve. JJ says no, and then asks his mom what’s wrong. Helen says I know Beth’s not Catholic, I just always thought you’d get married in the church, our church, and now with Johnny…but she doesn’t finish and says it’s none of her business.
JJ finds out Danny’s brother Patrick (the one who went MIA in season 1) has been found dead in Vietnam.
Helen, Beth, Jack meet with Minister Scott who says it’s a Unitarian church- they believe there are many paths up the mountain. Beth says it might sound strange at first, and Helen says not at all (even thought it does). Scott says they are very inclusive, there are no images of the crucifix so as to not make anyone feel uncomfortable. Jack asks what’s so uncomfortable about Jesus on the cross? Helen asks how the ceremony would work. Scott says they take the couple’s wishes into account. Beth says she would like to say something at the ceremony. Jack asks what else there is to say but I Do? They all laugh uncomfortably.
Tommy comes to JJ’s work in his mechanic uniform, tells JJ they got the stripper. JJ says he doesn’t want one, Tommy says it’s not a bachelor party without one, and jokes that now that they have her, JJ does even need to show up. JJ asks if he’s talked to Danny, Tom says no, JJ says he doesn’t think he’s coming tonight.
JJ and Beth pushing Johnny along the street, JJ gives her a kiss, she says she can’t wait until they’re finally married. JJ says me too. He says his mom wanted him to talk to her; she really wants them to get married at St. Catherine’s. Beth asks if it matters what she wants? He says of course it does. Beth says she’s sorry but she doesn’t believe in that church. She hears what the Pope says about women, birth control, and a lot of things and she doesn’t agree with them. She knows it’s important to his mom, but she’d feel like a hypocrite. JJ nods.
JJ and his friends Tommy and Bobby are at the bar. Danny comes in and JJ shakes his hand. Bobby says he’s sorry about his brother. Danny says they always kind of figured he wasn’t coming home, sort of good to know for sure, right? JJ says I’m sorry – Danny says thanks. Tommy says let’s play some pool.
In the attic, Helen says I was hoping JJ talked to you. Beth says he has, and if she didn’t like her minister she wishes she’d told her. Helen says it has nothing to do with her minister and Beth says it’s about her church. Helen says yes, the church where my children grew up, and hopefully someday your child will grow up. She says Beth is being very selfish. Beth says selfish? Helen says the minister is Unitarian, Beth is Episcopalian. If your own family’s religion means so little to you, then why can’t you do this for our family? Beth says the Church probably won’t let JJ and her get married there. Helen says you don’t know that. Beth says she’s sorry, but she already talked to JJ and he understands. Helen looks upset.
JJ and his friends toast to Patrick. JJ says he was a hero to me and his country.
Beth finds JJ in his room, looking at a picture of his family at the Church a few years ago. He says he really hated it when he was little, but his mom always made him go. Beth says I guess that’s what parents do. He says when he was out there in the jungle alone, not sure if he was breathing too loud, he doesn’t know if it was God or faith or what, but he was glad his mom made him do it, glad she made him go. Beth smiles as she starts to understand.
In the kitchen, Helen thanks Beth for changing her mind. Beth says she did it for JJ, it’s important to him. Helen says she understands that and she still appreciates it. Beth feels a little guilty and says I don’t know if I’ve ever said this, but thank you…for taking me in and treating me like family. There’s understanding between the two.
There’s also a part where the brother of a marine who died in the war comes to the recruiting center and lashes out at JJ. He later shows up with a group of protesters holding a picture of his brother. JJ tells Danny, who says that at least Patrick, JJ, and the rest of the soldiers were fighting for something. We can tell JJ isn’t so sure.
