JANUARY 30, 1967
“The Monkees In The Ring” first aired @ 7:30 p.m. EST on NBC as the 20th episode of The Monkees. The sponsor of the week was Kellogg’s™, and the songs featured (produced by Jeff Barry) were “Laugh” written by H. Medress, P. Margo, M. Margo & J. Seigal and “I’ll Be Back Up On My Feet (Again)” written by Sandy Linzer & Denny Randell. JANUARY 30, 1971 "The Picture Frame" (a.k.a. "The Bank Robbery"), Episode No. 34 of The Monkees (prod. #4759, aired on NBC September 18, 1967 and April 1, 1968), was repeated @ 12:30 p.m. EST on CBS. JANUARY 31, 1970 “The Son Of A Gypsy”, Episode No. 16 of The Monkees (prod. #4724, aired on NBC December 26, 1966 and June 12, 1967), was repeated @ noon EST on CBS. FEBRUARY 3, 1973 "The Monstrous Monkee Mash", Episode No. 50 of The Monkees (prod. #4767, aired on NBC January 22 and July 8, 1968), was repeated @ 1:00 p.m. EST on ABC. FEBRUARY 5, 1968 "The Devil And Peter Tork" (prod. #4737) first aired @ 7:30 p.m. EST on NBC as the 52nd episode of The Monkees. Yardley Of London™ sponsored, and "No Time" written by Hank Cicalo and "Salesman" written by Craig Smith (both produced by Douglas Farthing Hatlelid) were the featured songs. It recieved an Emmy Nomination for Outstanding Directorial Achievement In A Comedy Series For 1967-68; sadly, it lost out to the Bruce Bilson-directed "Maxwell Smart, Private Eye" segment of Get Smart (NBC/CBS, 1965-70). Ironically, Gerald Gardner and Dee Caruso, the writing team who cowrote this and several other Monkees episodes, composed several episodes of Get Smart prior to writing for The Monkees! (Is it any coincidence that three of their previous Monkees scripts, Episode No. 5, "The Spy Who Came In Fom The Cool," No. 17, “The Case Of The Missing Monkee”, and No. 26, “Monkee Chow Mein”, were spy-oriented??) FEBRUARY 5, 1972 "A Coffin Too Frequent", Episode No. 43 of The Monkees (first aired on NBC November 20, 1967), was repeated @ noon EST on CBS, with a new song added: "Oklahoma Backroom Dancer," written by Michael Nesmith. |
