Default Rachel and Chandler?

I was browsing through the thread about the Friends who weren't close and there was a lot of mention of Rachel/Chandler. But, at the same time, there were a lot of counter-arguments:

- Chandler (and Joey) encouraging her to quit her job.
- Chandler dating Rachel's boss.
- Chandler setting Rachel up with his coworkers.
- Their lunch dates.
- The cheesecakes.
- Their time in TOW Two Parties where he consoles her about divorce.

Anyway, I got to thinking, if the Monica/Chandler relationship didn't exist, do you think a Chandler/Rachel romance would have worked better than a Joey/Rachel one?

You wouldn't have had to dumb Rachel down or suddenly give Chandler real feelings (I liked Joey/Rachel a lot, but, at times, it felt like they were messing with the characters a little too much in order to try to make it work) and you would have had a nice story with the fact that Chandler is Ross's friend from way back, someone who's known about Ross's feelings for YEARS.

Plus, there's a really good chemistry with Matthew/Jennifer, so, it would have been interesting to see it play out.

I'm not saying it would have worked at all, but I think it might have been okay. Anybody got any thoughts?

No, I couldn't see them as a couple. But the actors had great chemistry, and theirs was the most underused combination of characters in the whole show. They were great together.

I don't think I could have seen them as I couple either! They were better off as friends. Like he said they were great together!

A lot like Jerry and Elaine on Seinfeld, I've got the feeling that Chandler and Rachel were pretty much perfect for eachother -- yet it should never happen.

I don't know, I just always saw Matthew and Jennifer as having the best chemistry out of all the male/female relationships. It wasn't anything sexual, they were just interesting together. Chandler and Rachel had the best male/female friendship.

Matthew and Jennifer actually knew each other before Friends and dated briefly, which may account for their chemistry.

I agree that they were great together, not just in terms of chemistry but in terms of personality. I was always pissed that they were the least explored pair.

I cant imagine them dating, but the Cheesecake episode is one of the only ones I remember where they had alot of scenes together. But I think they have good chemistry and work well with each other

They had stories together in "TOW The Boobies," "TOW The Cuffs" and "TOW The Girl From Poughkeepsie" also. I think they had one or two more though.

Well first let me say when it comes to weren't close I found that I always thought Chandler and Pheobe were not that close. Yes they had there moments but they just werent enough to make me think they were close.

I could see Rachel with Chandler, but I couldnt see them going with the same story of Rachel having a baby if they were together. I also cant see them making the relationship as strong as the one he had with Monica.
I could and wished that Pheobe dumped Mike and got together with Joey, they were perfect for each other IMO.

Phoebe and Chandler seemed to hate each other. Remember when Monica got in a fight with Pheebs and she told Chandler, "we're not friends with Phoebe anymore" and Chandler basically said he didn't care!

And Phoebe is always making fun of Chandler saying that he is not sexy and all that stuff. It is sort of mean of her.

Chandler and Phoebe didn't hate each other. They all loved each other. Some friends have that kind of almost sadistic teasing relationship.

I would've liked to have seen a Chandler/Rachel relationship. They had a subtle chemistry that wasn't as full on as some of the other relationships in the show. It's a shame they hardly got any stoies together, especially in the later years.

If pheobe ended up with Joey there would be no Joey show and it would be stupid that they all ended up with one of their friends.
