I just thought I'd mention this for anyone who may be interested. I recently purchased a three DVD collection of The Lucy Show off Amazon.com. Yes, it is the same 30 public domain episodes that every other company has put out. However, I am always trying to get the most episodes on the smallest amount of discs possible because my DVD collection keeps growing. This is a 3 disc set containing 10 episodes per disc unlike a lot of the discs out there with only 2 or 4 episodes a disc. An the price is reasoanable. Here is a link to check it out. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...v=glance&s=dvd

How is the quality? I keep hearing bad things about the picture and audio quality of these public domain episodes. Is that what you're finding?

These are not remastered so the quality is not the greatest. The same goes for the sound. Don't get me wrong they are able to be viewed and enjoyed but they are not the quality that one may expect. But with a series that is so difficult to come by it is better than nothing.

I, personally, would rather have a 5 DVD set with, say, six episodes per disc rather than a three disc set with ten episodes on each disc. These shows were longer than 25 minutes each. This would mean that each disc would have well over four hours of footage each. The amount of information put on a disc and the quality are inversely proportional. With ten half hour episodes on each disc, you will defintely have compression problems.
(NOTE: Were these discs double-sided? If they were, then disregard everything that I have just said). |
