Default Susan Hurley Harrison

If anyone is interested in learning more about the case of Susan Hurley Harrison who disappeared in 1994 and was found murdered in 1996, her sister, Molly Hurley Moran, has written a book about the case entitled Finding Susan. It should be available from Amazon. Molly, in fact, appeared briefly on the UM episode in late 1996. Ironically, it aired only about two weeks before Susan's body was located.

That's another case that I have never forgotten. I suspect that her husband was involved.

By the way, I found a web site on Susan Harrison:

That is definitely a very good website and includes a nice photo gallery. Jim, her husband, has been the only possible suspect thus far and has never been charged.

Here is a website on the book on the case by Susan's sister who is a professor at the University of Georgia:
http://www.realcrimes.com/Harrison/Susan_Harrison.htm

Very interesting info on this site how like after Susan disappeared, Jim was arrested on at least three seperate occasions for assault on a police officer while he was intoxicated.

Apperantly Jim had claimed he went for a jog the day Susan disappeared yet this was completely out of character for him since he was out of shape and a heavy drinker and wasnt known for liking to exercise.

Jim was also arrested in 1997 at the Baltimore airport after he was refused boarding for a plane to Florida because he was obviously drunk, he was again arrested after he pushed a police officer and charged with assault.

Also, they have a picture of Susan with some damage appearantly done by Jim: http://www.realcrimes.com/Harrison/Blackeye.jpg

interesting article, makes Jim Harrison even more suspicious.

what a scumbag that Jim Harrison is.

someone needs to tell Jim that he's being bad again.

Yeah, Jim did it, it is pretty obvious. However due to his wealth and power and the police bungling the investigation from the start he will probably never be charged. I actually think the case against him is pretty open and shut. Like how on the morning Susan disappeared, a worker repairing phone lines near Jim Harrison's home, saw a car back out of his driveway at around 4 am.

I dont know whether Jim planned the murder or not, that is another story, but I do think he is responsible for Susan's death. It is my opinion that both Susan and Jim were probably drinking, Jim was drunk and lost his temper and flipped out and started beating on Susan but went too far and ended up killing her than he panicked and decided to cover up the crime.

Jim, is a typical batterer, you could tell that when he was interviewed. According to him, it was all Susan's fault, how he only ever did anything to her when he was defending himself when she attacked him, please! Maybe she did attack him sometimes but that doesnt justify him doing what he did, beating her to a pulp. Jim is in that very exclusive club joining the likes of Jule Caylor and Michael Haim and Paul Pollis and the late Rob Bonderson and the late Stephen Marfeo and many others.

I'm torn on whether or not Jim intended to kill her or not. Both scenarios could have happened. An accidental killing could have happened as he may have been abusing her again and hurt her more than he intended. On the other hand, an intentional killing also could have happened as Susan told him her plans for leaving him, and Harrison couldn't deal with it.

Was this on UM? Is it on any of CD's volumes? It's not ringing a bell, but it sounds like a good one, I'd like to see.

Yes, I am torn too as to whether it was premeditated or not. That is another question entirely, but it is just very obvious, at least to me, that Jim Harrison whether he premeditated the murder or not is the one responsible for Susan's death.

From what I read on that website, I am sort of surprised they never arrested him and charged him with murder or even voluntary manslaughter! For sure I dont understand why he wasnt arrested once he found the body was found. I mean, they arent going to get anymore evidence, if he gets acquitted, fine, at least they could say they tried to hold him accountable for what he did as opposed to letting him walk scot-free.

I do admit that proving first degree murder would be hard, it would be easier to get a conviction for 2nd degree murder of voluntary manslaughter than it would for first degree murder, since for first degree you have to prove the pre meditation factor and that would be very hard in this case.It just seems the police and prosecutors bungled this case almost from the start.

Just saw this SH segment. Very sad that she was killed, but it's good the family finally got closure when her body was finally found.

Obviously, the husband is the #1 suspect. He was an obvious liar; saying he never abused her, when her son witnessed abuse. But, I'm not surprised that he wasn't charged for the crime - unfortunately.
