I was originally going to write a lengthy post on my trip to the Presidential Inaugural this past week, however, something happened yesterday that's changed what I'm about to post.
Yesterday evening, after stopping off for a quickie snack at a gas station in West Hyattsville, MD., I got back onto the DC MetroRail, not noticing that something was missing. I got back to the hotel in College Park, MD (Home of the Univ. of MD, FWIW), when I noticed that my right coat pocket, where I've kept my wallet for quite sometime, was unusually light. I reach into my pocket...and my wallet was gone. I searched the rest of my pockets...everything in those pockets, cell phone and room key included, were still there...but my wallet was gone. I spent the last twelve hours of my trip retracing every last footstep I made in College Park and West Hyattsville...No luck. Since my Photo ID was in the Wallet, I had the priveledge of trying out the TSA's security procedures for return ticketers with no ID. (It's a rather Advanced screening). Anyway, to get to the point of the post...I got back to WKU, and almost immediately (Had to plug up the Lappy to get the numbers first) called the providers of my two cards (one credit, one debit). Here's what was spent in the last 24 hours (since the disappearance) Debit Card: $60 in Fare for DC Metrorail Credit Card: $40 Car Part $60 in various other expenses. The Metro purchase happened when I was ASLEEP, and the rest happened more than 50 miles from me - I was stuck in Baltimore-Washington International at the time. I got the two cards cancelled, and the two companies fraud departments are working on it. Also missing are my: KY Drivers License WKU Student ID Social Security Card ...and then my local library card, but that's bigtime irrelevant. Guys, if you ever go to an area outside of a place you know incredibly well, please, watch yourself. |

That really really sucks
Do you have any idea how it got out of your coat pocket? How was the Inauguration? And how does someone get to go to that. Someone at my school went and I thought that was crazy.

Sorry to hear about that though. People are such bastards. Looks like you got off relatively cheap though. Someone stole my mom's credit card number once and spent hundreds of dollars on shoes and a car stereo. |

Damn thief. Some people in this world are very cruel and have no dignity. I hope they catch him, Seth. About the Social Security Card - I hope they can get you a new one.

I'm so sorry for you. I've never had any ID stuff stolen from but the house I used to live in was broken into 5 times and where I live now our truck was stolen. They found it on the reservation stripped and burned. But getting your ID stolen would be the worst.

I've only shown it to someone once, and that was for employment. Other than that, I've never used it; I just know the number. They even took out SSNs off our driver's licenses and gave us new numbers, so carrying that around has to be really unsafe. No way in hell would I want someone to steal that card. |
