Don Cheadle will take either Liam's or Leonardo's place for Hotel Rwanda. Hotel might take Ray's place in the Best Picture category. |

It would really surprise me if Phantom of the Opera didn't get a nod for best picture. In the past few years musicals have been making a great comeback and with Evita, Moulin Rouge!, and Chicago all winning awards, it seems very likely they'll get nominated. I doubt it'll win Best Picture, but it should be nominated. I don't know if Emmy Rossum will nab another nomination... not quite sure. The acting in the film was far from the strongest suit. It'll definately win for adapted score, and probably cinematography, costumes, or sets.
I liked Uma in Kill Bill but I doubt she'll get the nomination. Can't quite explain why, just doesn't strike me as the kind of performance that's really popular with Academy members. Put your money on Jamie Foxx for Best Actor. I haven't seen the film, but historically whenever there's an actor playing a real person - especially one that has an emotional connection, the Academy members go nuts. (Geoffrey Rush in Shine, Ben Kingsley in Ghandi, Julia Roberts in Erin Brockovich. Of course one can make the same argument for Leo DiCaprio in The Aviator but I've heard everyone rave about Foxx. I've heard no one rave about DiCaprio, and frankly, I don't think Leo's that great of an actor. He'll probably get nominated to make up for the snub in Titanic, but I doubt he'll win. I'm so afraid Scorsese will win directing. I've never seen a film by him that I've liked. I have yet to see The Aviator and I'm taking my time in getting around to that one. In my opinion he's one of the most overrated directors of our time. I'd say Kate Winslet stands a good chance. She'll probably get nominated, it was a wonderful performance in a unique film. If she gets nominated it'd be her fourth nomination in less than ten years. I describe her as "an Oscar waiting to happen." It's not a question of if but when, she'll get one soon. |

I didn't think Leonardo had a close shot at best actor but now its close with Jaime Foxx. They're easily the frontrunner. Cheadle's a lock for sure. I haven't posted my offical predictions yet, I will in the next day or two when I really sit down and think about it, but for now I'll say Best Picture Noms will be: Finding Neverland The Aviator Sideways Million Dollar Baby -I'm really not sure what the 5th nom will be. It could be Ray, Closer, Hotal Rwanda and maybe even Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. |

In my opinion, Million Dollar Baby is the best film of the year. Then again, I'm a little biased when it comes to Eastwood movies. It would be great if he could sneak into the Best Actor category, in addition to being nominated for Best Director. I also think Tom Cruise was overlooked for his role in Collateral.

I am pretty sure that Ray will get a Best Actor (Jamie Foxx) and a Best Picture nod. I also think Kevin Spacey could be nominated for Best Actor for Beyond the Sea.
