I have seen many sad episodes, but I think I'll have to say-
"Less Than Perfect" When Blair gets in a severe car accident leaving her in the hospital with a gash on the forehead, and she then realises that her once "perfect self" can't continue after this horrible tragedy. It's Very Sad

The one Facts of Life episode that I can say was sad was the episode where Jo's boyfriend came back and Tootie found out he was married. The end scene with Jo confronting Eddie had me in tears.

'The Runaway'
I felt this episode was very touching and sad and comedic as well--Emmy worthy subject matter and writing and acting and timing! I liked it when "The Facts of Life" would deal with poignant subject matters like running away and prostitution and Pimp abuse; but at the same time, providing comical banter with Blair being disguted at going into a dirty restaurant! I would laugh every time Blair said something and my mom would laugh whenever Jo would say something--everybody has a different sense of humor! Also, the scene when Mrs. Garrett and the girls are approached by a man who wants to buy tickets to a musical/play utilizes puns and double entendres at their best! In the story, Tootie is approached and befriended by a young prostitute who helps Tootie by paying for her meal. This poor, young girl prostitute is then forced to LURE Tootie into becoming a prostitute. Naive (?) Tootie wants to be included with the other girls and gets frustrated with her strict parents and runs off to New York City to join Mrs. Garrett, Blair, Jo and Natalie. I think the episode is sad because Mrs. Garrett wasn't able to help the young prostitute who is left working for this mean and abusive pimp. The episode makes you think about how many young girls, who have strict parents and just want to explore the world, get sucked into a life on their own--without money, guidance and support from people who care about them--who have their best interests in mind. I also liked this episode because there is a special guest star appearance of the character Miko. Many of the 'other' girls who attended Eastland were seen in more than one episode, which gave "The Facts of Life" a realistic feel. In my opinion, it was episodes like 'The Runaway' that made the young actresses on "The Facts of Life" win awards! Anyone know what episode gave Charlotte Rae an Emmy nomination? Didn't she win an Emmy? |
