Default Could this show have still been funny without Florence?

I remember seeing the pilot episode for the Jeffersons and I didn't even notice she wasn't there. I still laughed and watched the entire episode with the Willises, Bentley, and the Jeffersons. I have to admit I was not a big Florence Fan

Even though I liked Florence, it still could have been a funny show without her because of the other actors on the show. They had several funny episodes that Florence wasn't in during the first couple seasons.

There are good episodes all through the show without Florence. She wasn't a regular until Lionel moved out and she moved into his room. This coincides with Zara Cully getting ill. I believe they made her a regular to fill in for them; personally I would have preferred that Mike Evans stay on as a regular and Florence appear as a recurring character the way Ralph did, maybe 6-8 episodes per season. In the later years there were too many episodes revolving around her. Less of her would have gone a long way.

Florence was a missing ingredient, but it could still be funny without her. George's interactions with the Willis' and Bently were classics.

I, too, also think that the show could of survived w/o Florence. But I just can't imagine it w/o her presence.

The show would've been hurt without her. Yes, it was still funny, but the few episodes she wasn't in because she was off doing her spinoff, hurt the show a little.

I have to disagree Brian, because it sounds like you are saying she was just as important to the show as George and we both know that was not true-lol

I liked Florence as well and I thought she was funny when she was giving George a hard time, but I do not think she was the reason why this show was funny...George Jefferson was the reason why this program was hilarious.

I'm not saying she was as important as George, but she was the best person to get a rise out of George.

You're right. George was the show, but together her and George brought out the best in one another.

Yes, but it wouldn't have been as funny. Florence added a lot of dynamic to the series. She may not have been the funniest character, but George was at his funniest when fighting Florence.
