Question Do you make a big deal out of your birthday or not?

I don't. Like most everyone, I like to be remembered, but I don't make a fuss or expect others to make one over my birthday either.

I have a friend who treats her birthday like a National holiday. She lines events up for an entire week.

My stepdaughter is the same. She talks about her upcoming birthday for weeks. She puts in big orders for gifts. She refuses to even work on her birthday. It's like she's Queen for a day, or I should say a week.

My friend's attitude is more tolerable because she also makes a big deal out of the birthdays of those she loves. My birthday was yesterday, and she and her husband are taking us out for dinner this weekend. They'll be a great gift waiting. She does the same for my husband's birthday. She does keep score though, and expects the same in return. My stepdaughter gives a token gift, if one at all. She only makes a big deal out of her own birthday.

It seems that some adults never outgrow that little kid enthusiasm for their birthdays. I know it's an important day, and I never forget anyone's birthday, but some people overdo it.

Not really. If it's a major milestone birthday (like when I turned 16), then yes...it's a big deal. But the other years, no. When I turned 18 in 2003, I just went out for coffee with a friend of mine. The day before, I had a babysitting job that ran nearly all night. When I turned 19 last year, I just sat around at home until my dad came to get me and he took me out for a b-day dinner at the place of my choice. THEN we went to where Trading Spaces Family was filming their 2nd episode - now THAT was a big deal for me. I didn't want any gifts - it doesn't take much to make me happy...So I told Joe Farrell (the host on TSF) that it was my birthday and he started singing to me! THAT made my year.

When I turned 16 in 2001, my family threw a surprise party for me. That was mighty cool. The other years...no parties. I might round up a few of my friends for my 20th later this year, but I don't plan to go all-out for my birthday.

Not really, I try not to. I don't like making a big fuss out of my birthday, I don't know why, I just don't. My friends get me balloons and cards and stuff which is nice I don't have parties because if you don't invite someone, they get offended and hate me for the rest of my life (so middle school) so I don't even bother. Last year, my family took me and my friend to NYC, so that was fun

Not really,My mom just usually makes a birthday dinner for me,and we
have the traditional cake and ice cream afterwards, but my other relatives
treat theirs as if it were Christmas Day or something.

I get to do what I want for my birthday. Like for my last birthday, I took the family to Red Lobster. Mom also got me a cake from Coldstone Creamery. Every year I usually go to Disneyland on a separate day to celebrate. I didn't go last year. Instead I wanted to go to Magic Mountain (I wanted to do Disneyland this year for the park's 50th anniversary) but it couldn't be worked out so my sister is taking me on my Spring Break.

I don't get too many presents. I don't mind that because Christmas is less than a month away from my birthday. Plus eating out and going to a major theme park like Disneyland or Six Flags Magic Mountain is a better gift than any tangible present. In fact, I was surprised to get a present.

Not really anymore. And I don't have any close friends to spend it with, so I do stuff with my relatives who are the only sane people in the world, or at least the only people I can stand.
