Thomas Haden Chruch on DANZA!?!

Thomas Haden Church will be on The Tony Danza Show on Wednsday (Time varies depending on your location).
I thought that the board mates might find this funny because of the classic Ned and Stacey episode 'Saved by the Belvedere' where Ned hires Mr. Belvedere to be in a Cappachino in a Can commercial in which Ned threatens Belvey that if he can't do the commercial, he'll hire America's OTHER favorite housekeeper, Tony Danza. Of course Belvey utters the now classic, overdramatic line "DAAAAAANZA!?!".
I hope they make a mention of the episode tomorrow

I think I've said this before but I'm so happy to see THC finally get the recognition for his talent that he deserves. I missed some of the talk shows I heard he was on but I did catch him on others. I just found out Danza's show is on at 10, and I'm sure my sister is going to want me to tape it because she likes THC, too.

I think he should have been part of the pop culture in 1997 because he would have fit right in with the Spice Girls and other eccentric stars of that year. Unfortunately Ned and Stacey got canceled before 1997 was over with.

I know this sounds weird because I hated High School, but I wish that Sideways would have happened last year because I could have driven everybody crazy talking about Thomas and they wouldn't have been able to get away from hearing about him.

Anyway, seeing him on talk shows really gets me giddy and makes me feel like I'm 15 again (I was 15 when I first discovered Thomas). I try to take him seriously, but he makes me GIGGLE so much! He's SO charismatic and infectious!

I caught THC on Danza's show today during my lunch hour (I taped it and came home for lunch to watch it).

I was quite impressed with Thomas on the show. He's certainly no dummy....He knows a lot about film-making, but he's not snooty about it, and he doesn't seem full of himself. (Actually, he has a rather self-depreciating sense of humor).

I also liked the friendly chemistry between Thomas and Tony Danza. Sometimes Tony is interviewing a guest and you just KNOW that he's not into the person....It's a job and as the program host, Tony HAS to interview that person to plug the guest's new movie, TV series, CD, etc. However, Tony really seemed to really LIKE Thomas, and the feeling seemed to be mutual. I could see the two of them going out for a beer after the show....the interview was that relaxed and friendly.

I'm rooting for Thomas to win at the Golden Globe awards this weekend. (I always like to see the "Wings" gang do well with their present careers).

Both Thomas and Tony have had a lot of highs and lows in their careers, more highs and lows than most top A-list stars. Tony, like Thomas, had a slump in his career in the mid-to-late 1990s as I recall, reduced to TV movies and cameos.

I know that most people here are really big fans of the Wings cast and I do like the show, but many people, including Mom and I believe that Thomas shouldn't have been on Wings because his acting is really extraordinary and above average compared to some of the other actors and actresses on the show or some actors in movies. He was this guy working at a Texas radio station didn't know that he had an untapped talent until he was asked if he wanted to be in a movie and all of a sudden... he's this spectacular, unappreciated actor! Thomas' story is truly a fairy tale. Not too many people are picked out of thin air and suddenly have a job in Hollywood.

It took the guy near sixteen or seventeen years to get where he is now (I think that's how long it's taken him, he started in 1988) and many actors get Oscars or other awards before they are 40 and the Critics Choice was Thomas' first BIG awards show. I can understand why after the show he said that he really got emotional. He waited forever to get his celebrity (Although I don't really like the idea of his life being put on display for the world to gawk at) and recognition.

Ange, I have to respectfully disagree with you and your Mom. I think that "Wings" was excellent training for Thomas. It certainly wasn't your run-of-the-mill, silly sitcom....There were some very serious moments and a lot of powerful acting going on there. Perhaps if Thomas hadn't had the experience of working on "Wings", he wouldn't have the acting ability that he has today....I said "PERHAPS", so don't bite my head off!

If Thomas HAD to appear on a TV sitcom, "Wings" offered him the best opportunity and environment to perfect his acting skills as any sitcom going!

Well, my Mother isn't a very big fan of Tim Daly but she likes his sister Tyne (I liked her character on Judging Amy), so that's a big factor. She also comments quite a bit that the rest of the cast "can't act" when I watch the show. I'd say that they're a bit wooden at times, but not horrible. They're about on the level of the original Sliders cast from earlier seasons.
Mom says that Lowell Mather was a really limited part for the talent that Thomas has/had. I agree that Thomas can do SO MANY different roles. He's really good at being a jerk and a shill. I love the sensuality he puts into his darker villains (Drew Oslett Jr. in Mr. Murder and Don in One Night Stand) He also does strangely well in homosexual roles (The Badge and Lone Star State of Mind).

I've always wanted to see Thomas as an undercover detective in a gritty cop drama like The Shield or in a dramatic, glamorous movie like the hard boiled private eye movies of the 30s and 40s (I think that the genre could be revived because of stuff like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, Chicago and The Singing Detective)
