Favorite season 4 two-parter - Sitcoms Online Message Boards

I just noticed Good Times had four two-part episodes in the fourth season, so the question is which one was the best, or your favorite?

The Big Move (parts 1 & 2)
J.J.'s New Career (parts 1 & 2)
Thelma's African Romance (parts 1 & 2)
Love Has a Spot on His Lung (parts 1 & 2)

Even though the episodes are sad and depressing, I'll go with the Big Move.

I'd pick the Big Move too. I remember that one and J.J.'s New Career more than the others. But I always liked both Florida and Thelma's performances in part two of the Big Move.

Parts 1 and 2 of JJ's New Career are two of the four episodes I still have from when I recorded episodes from TBS. The other two: Michael's Great Romance and

I wasn't too crazy about African Romance

Yeah, it's been a long time since I've seen that one (and Love Has a Spot on His Lung) but I probably wasn't crazy about it either. I don't remember it being too eventful. I vaguely remember the guy but I don't remember anything else specific about that one. The Big Move is one of the most memorable episodes of the entire series.

Big Move was very memorable but definitely not entertaining

I have to wait until after I get the DVD. I started watching the show just as it left TBS and I haven't seen these.

This is the two-parter most people remember in teh Good Times Series. It was a good episode because it was a BIG Turning Point for the show. This set the stage for what was to come in the rest of the season. Plus, it took a sad subject like death and grieving and made it easy to understand. And also, Florida's famous "Damn Damn Damn" line. That summed up how her character was feeling. She had to be the provider and the strong parent in the family and she wasn;t capable of handling things like James was. But she managed to pull it off that season.....until Carl came along.

Yes it is the most memorable one of all six seasons. I agree. It's not the funniest by a long shot, but I think they handled the grieving in a very credible manner. The only thing is back then continuity was not important in shows outside of soap operas so after the Big Move it is almost as if there never was a father in the series.

One thing that occurred to me about the two parter with Carl and Florida's engagement: it always seemed bizarre that Florida would get engaged so soon after James' death, but in the last season Michael is 17 and Thelma seems to be through with school so it seems like they aged them a year. It could be that there was a whole year added in at some point during season 4. If Florida got engaged 2 years after James' death this would not be so strange to me
