After three weeks of repeats, Joey returned on Thursday night with its first new episode of 2005. With Survivor between seasons, the struggling NBC spin-off finally had an opportunity to increase its audience opposite the premiere of Wickedly Perfect on CBS. Joey did just that, improving to a preliminary estimate of an 8.2 rating and a 13 share, significantly ahead of the 7.0/11 for the last new episode four weeks ago. The numbers represent the program's largest audience in over two months and its biggest increase between new episodes, as Joey won its timeslot for the first time since it premiered. With an estimate of 12.48 million viewers, Joey ranked third for the night, well behind new episodes of CBS's Thursday night dramas, as shown by the preliminary ratings.
1. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation: 17.6/26 2. Without a Trace: 15.1/24 3. Joey: 8.2/13 4. Committed: 7.6/12 5. Will & Grace: 7.0/10 6. Wickedly Perfect: 6.7/10 7. Medium (Repeat): 6.6/11 7. Will & Grace (9:30 Repeat): 6.6/10 Without Survivor, CBS still managed to win the night with ease, averaging a 13.1/20 that easily dominated NBC's second-place 7.1/11. As of last week, Joey ranks twentieth in the season-to-date ratings with an 8.1/13 average. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation has a stranglehold on the number-one spot with a 16.4/25, while Joey is tied with Will & Grace as the number-three sitcom behind Everybody Loves Raymond and Two and a Half Men. With Joey set to air several new episodes and Survivor not scheduled to return for several weeks, January appears to be a pivotal month for the sitcom to establish a larger audience. |

Enjoy the win. Wickedly Perfect sucks. Survivor is back next month.

Joey seems like a safe bet for a second season just because it's still cheap for NBC and ratings are, albeit low, okay. Will & Grace, on the other hand, looks like a goner as it costs $4 million an episode and is drawing fewer viewers than Joey of late.

Well, to be fair, the lack of Survivor this week was a major help.
