I find this episode to be one of the most annoying! First off, no one can convince me that sloppy, awkward Beaver was ever athletic enough to get an award. Secondly, my dad would have simply wooped my ass if I disobeyed him like that and on top of it caused my parents to argue. I was thinking the whole time that Ward should have just yanked his ass over there without bailing him out, maybe the little creep would have learned a lesson.
Is it just me or is this truely one of the most annoying episodes besides the silent treatment?

if in real life a father did what Ward did, it would teach the kid they could disobey and the father would always be there with a hidden solution. this was one of my 5 least favorite episodes.

It was unrealistic on a lot of levels. First as you point out Desilu, how in the heck did Beaver get to be an athlete?
And, Ward caving in was so uncharacteristic too!

That's what I'm saying. In the earlier years, Ward would have layed down the law (which I feel is one of his sexiest characteristics
). The writers seemed to have mellowed him out when it came to allowing certain things to happen later on, which disappoints me because when I see Ward, I see a hot caveman type man....oh don't get me started! I just think that Ward was good at playing "the man of the house", he just had that look about him.

Well I don't like Ward's hot temper in the early years very well either. But it does seem that by the last couple of seasons he did go the opposite extreme. Although in last night's story, what were they supposed to do? They couldn't beat beaver into submission or anything!

No they couldn't beat him but I certainly could have!
But I think that Ward should have stuck to his first decision and not take him at all. I think June was out of line once again in underminding his authority. That is another thing, they made it to where June had more say which I thought was wrong for that era. You watch, I'll get blasted for that comment but that is how I was raised so that is why I feel like that.

You won't get blasted by me for criticizing June!
I feel she was really bossy and snobbish. The proper thing for them to have done would have been to either have him dress correctly or not go, as you say!

Well, yes June did have her moments and this was one of them. I don't feel like she meant to be bossy and snobby but that was alot of aunt Martha. I do however think that Ward should have stepped in and put her in her place once in a while just as it was said to have been back then. Most husbands from that era would have and I think they should have done that with Ward and June more often to make it more realistic...and of course to feed my thoughts.
I do think in most ways June's heart was in the right place. I'm sure that raising 2 boys, one of which was more gullible and reckless than the other could make any mother scared out of her mind.

I think Aunt Martha and the Bronsons did make June snobbish. And in the later years she was too bossy. I agree Amy that Ward should have stepped up a little more than he did too.

Now they will probably close this thread too because every word isn't dealing with LITB!

Last week we were really going off topic and they made a big announcement that there would be only 1 thread of that type allowed.
