I remember this show, and I also thought it was very good. It did a great job at poking fun of the "teen drama" TV genre.

As for DVDs of the show, sorry, I can't help you there...

I remember Aaron Spelling was very angry that one of the characters was loosly based on his daughter. He threatened to sue everyone involved with the show unless certain similarities to Tori were eliminated.

If I recall correctly, the producers of the show were forced to change the hair color of the character "based" on Tori Spelling - or else face a lawsuit.

I saw the series a few times and enjoyed it. It had some good laughs.

Did this take place in Grosse Pointe, Michigan or something? Because I live right next to that town.

The ratings weren't good, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Spelling used "7th Heaven" as leverage to get it cancelled. He's like that. The only thing that did surprise me is when Tori and Al Santos showed up together in "The Help" last year. Betcha Daddy hated that.
I think a lot of the backstage termoil had to do with the fact that Grosse Point was created by Darren Star, who worked with Spelling on 90210 and Melrose Place. Somewhere along the line they had a major falling out about something, and lots of critics speculated that the storylines in Grosse Point were Star's way to goof on his former boss.

The "Grosse Pointe" on the TV show was a fictional coastal town. I forgot if it was supposed to be east or west coast.

Ah, the Grosse Pointe here is actually on the Coast of lake St. Clair.

It's too bad they had to tone down some of the storyline, becasue it certainly would have added more of an edge to the show. I really have no doubt that Spelling threatened some legal action against Grosse Pointe.

Do you by any chance remember what FOX show Spelling threatened becasue they did a 90210 parody that seriously ripped into Tori? I think it was a sketch comedy show, pre Mad TV.

The Edge! That's it.

According to the Book "The Complete Directory Of Prime Time TV Shows,"
Spelling threatened to sue The Edge over the wild lampoons of his shows.
"In one 90210 spoof, an actress portraying Tori Spelling hogged scenes and kicked other actors, screaming "I can do that becasue it's my Daddy's show!" (I remember that)
"Spelling demanded an apology, which producer David Mirkin refused to give. Mirkin subsequently left the show, although the production company claimed there was no connection."

Now this is a short lived show that deserves a DVD release.
