Question American Bandstand coming back to television

Has anyone heard anything about American Bandstand coming back to televison this year?

I read this on TVTome: There are currently plans to re-launch American Bandstand in Summer 2005.

Who would the choose to host? OMG, not Ryan Seacrest!

Do you think it will succeed or fail?

I don't know yet, but I remember Dick Clark hosted "American Bandstand" years ago on TV back in 70's and 80's while ABC joined "Bandstand" during its Saturday Morning cartoon lineup of favorite shows. I have the record by Les Elgart called "Bandstand Boogie" used as the theme song for "American Bandstand". It was from the album called "Dance of the Week". I also have the second theme song called "Bandstand Boogie" with new lyrics by Barry Manilow. It's from the "Barry Manilow's Greatest Hits" album too. It was used as the theme to open its TV show.

I think it'll fail, so I hope they don't do it. It won't have the same spirit as the original. It'll probably come off looking like something MTV would do at this point. I'd accept it more if they called it anything but American Bandstand, it won't be the same show.

I wasn't around for American Bandstand but I hear my mom talk about it sometimes and I think it'd be cool to put it back on TV

You know how big a Prince fan I am now? I remember way back in either '79 or '80 when Prince appeared on American Bandstand. That had alot to do with why I didn't like him early on. I thought he was really weird, a real spooky dude. He didn't answer any of Dick Clark's questions, he just nodded and held up fingers, lol, I thought he was crazy. Needless to say, that all changed since I'm a fanatic of his now, but Prince's weird appearance was definitely a memorable American Bandstand moment for me. It was a good show back then. If they did it today it would probably be like MTV's The Grind mixed with WB's Pepsi Smash.

OMG! I saw that show, that has always stood out for me whenever I see Prince, is his appearance on American Bandstand. I couldn't believe it when Dick Clark asked him questions and he put up his fingers and didn't speak. Great AB moment. I agree with you, that AB would not be the AB that we grew up with. I would love for them to put the shows on DVD, but because of music rights and the dreaded RIAA that won't happen. VH1 used to air the shows awhile back then stopped. Those were some great Saturday afternoon memories, you can go back.

Yeah, I caught a few of them when VH1 started rebroadcasting them. I wish I'd recorded some of them, it was fun seeing those old shows again. I did record the one with the Prince performance though. I'm into the nostalgia, so seeing any of the old 70's or 80's shows gave me a kick. The disco era was especially a fun time. I'd love it if they released them on dvd too, but I know that'll never happen.

I know that, "American Bandstand" used to be on ABC right after the Saturday morning cartoon lineup of great shows like "Scooby-Doo" and those other stuff that it was on Saturday. Lots of memories.

hahahahaha...that sounds like something Prince would do. The guy is a great artist but he isn't exactly known for his sanity. He was supposed to perform a show at a club in Wilkes-Barre about 2 years back and he got there and said that the place smelled like meat and he refused to go in LOL

But the thing that, for me is who would come on the show? AB at the time was a really good way for musical acts to get known, and sell. Now days I don't think you could get many recording artist to go on the show the way they did back then. There too many other venues and outlets for getting publicity and American Bandstand's time has come an gone.

Musicradio77, your right, the cartoons just before AB were classic!
