I recently got into watching Coach, so I watch the reruns.
Question: The lady that played Hayden's boss' wife, was she the same person that played Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors" because she sure sounds like her. |

Definitely Luthor. Jerry Van Dyke is an incredibly gifted comic and it is a joy to watch him in action. For the poster who wondered about the actress who played Shirley Burliegh. Her name is Georgia Engel and she wasn"t in Little Shop of Horrers. She did however play Georgette on the Mary Tyler Moore Show.

Had a crush on the Kelly actress... but I think Craig T. Nelson played his part the best. All were great.. Luther and Dauber were hilarious.

Hayden Fox gets my vote. Craig T. Nelson is a terrific actor to begin with as his movies indicate. On Coach, his icy stare will send shivers up anyone's spine, Luther's in particular. Hayden plays his part to perfection. He's sort of a smarter Ralph Kramden with the hot temper and soft heart.
In fact, Hayden and Luther together remind me of Ralph Kramden and Ed Norton from the Honeymooners. The lovable dimwitted sidekick messes up, the friend blows his stack, and they remain best friends. Luther Van Dam is fall off the sofa funny. This is my first go-around with Coach, so Jerry Van Dyke is sort of new to me. I always knew of him, but rarely saw him in anything. This man is a comedic genius. I think he's every bit as talented as his brother Dick Van Dyke. They both do that routine where they start to talk, but it turns into a jumble mumble, and ends with a couple of legible words. I've tried to do it and it's impossible, for me anyway. Christine is perfect as Hayden's love. She's patient, but strong. He's putty in her hands if you ask me. I was surprised to find so much emotional drama on Coach. The problems Hayden and Christine have in their relationship can be emotional, and the dialog between them is often quite intense. When Kelley was getting divorced, there were quite a few emotional scenes too. Luther has his share of tugging at my heart strings as well. When he found his long-lost father for example--what he said to him had me in tears. "Did you leave because of me--was I too messy?" When he's hurt, the look on Luther's face is heartbreaking. The episode where he went ballistic in the airport after guest star Dick Martin was leaving with Luther's date--although it was funny listening to Luther yell, there was a desperation in his voice as he's asking why everyone has betrayed him. Love this show! |

It's been awhile since I watched this show, but I promised someone that I'd give it another chance.
I loved Luther and then Dauber the best.
