Default Is the brand "Goldstar" considerded a bad brand when buying a VCR/DVD?

Just wondering has anyone ever bought the brand Goldstar for a VCR or DVD Player and had problems? I know Sony is considered the best brand since I had my Sony VCR for 3 years without any problems. On the flipside I bought a DVD/VCR combo which the brand Goldstar and have to return after one week.

Thumbs down

Many years ago I bought a Goldstar VCR. It was enough of a piece of junk for me to keep away from that name brand.

IMHO

What kind of problems did you have? My problem is certain tapes were not playing well in that VCR. But the Sony VCR that I have no matter what tape I put inside the picture plays well.

its sounds like poor quality picture heads.because your goldstar unit is brand new it wouldn't have the build up of dust and lint inside it from repeated usage.its more likely being an inexpensive model to have cheap picture heads that can't cope well with poor tracking shows and shows that have poor/fair picture quality.
even though to a certain extent you are paying for the sony name when you by their equipment the units are excellent quality and have high quality internals which can cope better

To be honest, I can't remember what the problem was at that time. I do know that my Goldstar didn't get much use in those days, but believe that it was the worst VCR that we've ever owned, as far as tracking and longevity.

The tracking was the major problem.

Goldstar is ok to put in the kids room but to do seriouse dubbing and multi hour recordings, forget it goldstar is not built that good, thats why u can get them so cheap, i used to have my own vcr repair shop and as a vcr repairman i loved goldstars, they helped pay my bills, along with emersons, but a word of wise do a regular head cleaning on all vcrs even sonys id say once every 2 weeks get the tape head cleaner not the paper type with the bottle of cleaning liquid i do not like the liquid type,u can get them from wal mart for about $7.00 they are worth it will give u 100 cleanings, i found the biggest problem with goldstar and emerson is that if you put in an old vhs tape that is tight and drags it will knock out the servo control circuit this happens everytime the servo circuit is what controls the servo motor that drives the tape for play/rew/FF so if u have very old and bad looking tapes dont put them in this one.

I still have my goldstar I bought a year and a half ago but it does have a problem and when I first bought it to. I can only use it to play when I record something there is no sound. It's a good tracking vcr for me.

I used to have a Sanyo VCR since I was recording movies off of TV years ago using the EP mode, the quality was bad. About 2 years ago, I bought an Emerson Stereo VCR and it works fine on my EP mode and it looks great and the sound looks great. As for the old Sanyo VCR. I had that one since 1993 and it looks horrible that VCR was so old. The tracking control was a little messy. I have lots of them on VHS looked very poor.
