Post Theme Song (I'm starting a new "topic" on this)

How many versions of this are there?

"Regular"-the most common version; one verse, one chorus

"Syndicated"-used mostly for syndication(I say 'mostly' cuz N@N uses it for the season 10-12 eps); the opening notes and a chorus

*The years I had for each version no longer pertain to each version, because N@N is airing them differently). Explanations come after the list. Also, these are the sounds, not the videos(there are WAY too many variations of this!)*

1. Regular 1
2. Syndicated 1
3. Regular 2
4. Syndicated 2
5. Regular 3
(?)6. Syndicated 3(?)
7. Long-aired version
8. 200th Anniversary version

Explanations:
1. Can be heard at Sitcomsonline.com/letter C/Cheers/
2. Shortened #1
3. Like #1, but a different recording(vocals AND instruments). you can tell easily; when the chorus BEGINS, in this version, there is only one voice track singing. In #1, you can hear an echo, or maybe a voice track on top of it.
4. Shortened #3
5. a strange version, heard first time on N@N. its like a #1, with the "echo-voice track", but a totally different recording of vocals AND instruments. In this version, a strange rag-type piano or something(i can't tell) is heard, starting at "Wouldn't you like to get away..." and for the chorus, the total melody is sung, unlike #1 and #3(you can hear THIS in both), where a harmony is sung(notably during "Where everybody knows your name...and they're always glad..."

6. Presumably a shortened version of this

7. A strange, different recording. The song could be divided into 3 parts. The first is like a #1. The second is like a #1, but its totally instrumental. The third part is almost identical to the first part(a #1), but its not. This can be heard at Sitcomsonline.com/letter C/Cheers/

8. used for the 200th anniversary episode. It includes MANY more lyrics than the other version, but it's not the full thing. It is missing one known verse, maybe more. This one can also be heard at Sitcomsonline.com/letter C/Cheers/

is this confusing? it probably is, just say so and ill clear it up!

I believe the shortened "syndication" hack was the one mostly used on NBC for the last few seasons in order to accomodate more commercial/episode time.

Ok. This is the theme full theme

Makin your way in the world today takes everything you've got.

Takin' a break from your all your worries sure would help a lot.

Wouldn't you like to get away?

All those nights when you've got no lights, the check is in the mail.

And your little angel hung the cat up by it's tail, and your third fiancee didn't show.

Sometimes you want go where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came.

You want to be where you can see. Our troubles are all the same. You want to be where everybody know your name.

Roll out of bed Mr. Coffee's dead, the morning's looking bright.

And your shrink ran off to Europe and didn't even write.

And your husband wants to be a girl

Be gald there's one place in the world, where everybody knows your name, and they're always glad you came.

You want to go where people know. Where People are all the same. You want to go where everybody knows your name.

Where Everybody knows your name.
And they're always glad you came

Where Everybody knows your name.
And they're always glad you came

Where Everybody knows your name.
And they're always glad you came

Where Everybody knows your name.
And they're always glad you came

I taped the "Final 5" episodes of Cheers when it was still on NBC. I'm so glad I did!

On a related note, Paramount/Viacom has definitely made some errors when restoring these episodes, as we have suspected. The other night, N@N showed the fifth season episode where Carla buys the allegedly haunted house. However, the fourth season opening was used, without Kelsey Grammer in the opening (during seasons 3 and 4, he was billed at the end of the show). Kelsey IS listed in the proper season 5 opening. So ultimately, poor Kelsey wound up getting no credit for this episode.

is that the first one they showed(where Woody and Cliff were playing some game in the teaser)?? if so, then that's the one I'm talking about...it had the weird piano-thing, w/o Kelsey, but the harmony sung.
