Default June is Annoying

In the last two episodes of Leave it to Beaver that aired on TV Land, I have found June annoying and nosy. The first was when she found a Merchant Marine letter in Wally's drawer and she got worried that he would join whereas the letter was for Lumpy. The second was when Beaver was on the phone with Mary Tyler and June was listening in on the conversation. That's always been my pet peeve of LITB, Ward and June listening in on the boys' phone calls. Thank goodness for cordless phones!

I have to agree. In many respects she was a good mom...a good housekeeper, cook, etc. But she was nosy! The boys had very little privacy. I have brought this up in another thread that Ward and June would just barge into their room without any notice! And as you mention, every word they said on the phone was scrutinized! That would not sit well with me!

While I agree with what both you guys said, but I also think that while June was annoying and nosy, she was, in a way, looking out for her boys. She was very overprotective of both boys, but while it comes across annoying and nosy to the child, it's some parents' method of going behind a child's back to find out more about them than they are willing to admit. Certainly wouldn't sit well with me either. But June was always there for the boys and Ward, she did all she could for them, and was a kind and caring mother. So while she might have come across annoying or nosy, she was doing what she thought was best.

And they pull me behind, as I let off the pedal.
Why should I divide what feels so right?
Is this where I want to lay?

June is so beloved by a lot of LITB fans I'm glad someone had the nerve to bring this up!

I would like to add that she was also vain. Does anyone remember the David Manning birthday party episode? Beaver had a camera and she wouldn't even let him pretend to take her picture without film when she was cleaning the house!

And she was a snob! Remember how she disapproved of them playing with the "garbage man's" sons?

I agree, although June was a very caring mother, she was sometimes a little too nosy for her own good. Even for a 50's TV Sitcom Mom, I think she could have given the boys a free phone call without having to know exactly what they were talking about every time, or who was calling, etc. It just gets tiring after a while.

That's a really long siggy! My AOL siggys used to be really long like that lol. Then I quit playing with siggies, I got tired of it.
