How did you think Cheers jumped the shark? I think it did when Diane left. It was never the same after.

I didn't start watching Cheers until after it had ended (I was only a baby when it came out) but from all the episodes I've seen, I'd have to say that not only did it never jump, but it actually got better after Diane left. Just my opinion ;0)

Cheers never jumped. It did get much, much better when Diane left, though. When Woody came on, it wasn't even close to the shark! Woody Harrelson was wonderful in his character.

Cheers is one of the few tv shows in the history of television that got better with age.

Sorry - Diane was to me more like a real person as opposed to the later years that the writers were just mailing it in (like the Bar Wars Episodes) (Kelly's French boyfriend sucked as well) (Carla's hockey boyfriend episodes were boring) to name a few - the Diane & Coach episodes are for the most part well written and acted

It never did jump the shark after Shelley left. It got better because the Kirstie Alley years focused on everyone, while the Shelley Long years mainly focused on Sam and Diane.

Completely disagree 100% with the title of this thread. Cheers NEVER jumped the Shark. Hell, if anything the Rebecca Howe episodes after Diane left were superior to the Diane episodes. My recent reviews of the entire series has more detail regarding this.

Season 6 Episode where Norm says to Evan Drake that his dream is to carry a rich man across a lawn. Though the shark was clearly jumped, I think they were feeling out this season with Kirstie Ally. The rest of the seasons and episodes stayed on the right track.
