1. James trying not to break down as he talked to his father about abandoning him as a child in "The Family Tree"(1976)
2. James constantly irritating Florida by his interest in J.J.'s model 'The Wiggler' in "J.J. and the Nude"(1975) 3. When James, after realizing that a blind salesman(Ron Glass) was conning them in "The Encyclopedia Hustle"(1974), asked him, "Do you read braille?" The salesman answered "Of course." James responds, "Good." Holds out a fist for him to feel. "What do this say?" 4. James threatening to shove a Bank manager into the night deposit if he didn't pay J.J. for his commissioned painting(1976). 5. James' reaction to the new refrigerator and clothes on J.J. given by Sweet Daddy Williams, and later in the same episode when he calls Sweet Daddy's girlfriend a "Skank"!!!(1976) |

TVShowAnalyzer, those are my memorable James moments too. But my order goes like this:
1. Smashing the chair. 2. Grabbing Cleatus. 3. Rescuing J.J. from the thugs 4. Arguing with the rich dad. 5. Confronting Mad Dog. Mad Dog was about to get his ass whooped. That's why he shot J.J. |

1.The whole part 2 of "The Gang" episode: James snapping the pretzel sticks saying that that's what he'll do to Maddog's fingers, then later feeling sorry for Maddog
2.Throwing the chair in "The Checkup" 3.Anytime he did that heh-heh-heh laugh, example: when he was complimented by Marcy in "My Son the Lover" 4.The way he got tough with Eddie in "Lunch Money Ripoff" 5.The conversation with his father in "The Family Tree" |

THe most defining moment to me didn't even have him on the series anymore.
His Death. Florida reading that telegram put the whole series on a downer for me the rest of the run. Also made it hard to enjoy the syndication. |

1) No doubt - kicking that rich snob out of the house who forgot where he came from
2) "Coon qu0ta" - when Thelma gets the scholarship 3) When Florida goes to jail, but they get that store manager back 4) rescuing J.J. from the hallway at night (I think "The Windfall") 5) The Rent Party - his final appearance - and shows his helpfulness But a real powerful moment came in season 4 when Florida rescues Michael from the gang - without James "I'll break every bone in your body!" as she holds a baseball bat - and Michael's feelings were real, showing how he loved his late father and mom |

1. When he whooped Eddie the Bully's behind
2. When he was mad because he hadn't met Thelma's old boyfriend (Lou Gossett, Jr.) and when she ran out the house to go meet him, James ran over to the door and yelled "Get in here this damned minute!" and Florida came rushing in saying, "I'm Going As Fast As I Can James!" 3. When he told Florida that a woman belongs in two places: "The kitchen and the bedroom, Florida, the kitchen and the bedroom!" 4. When he was mad with his friend of 20 years, Leroy Jackson, who had gambled their money away and when he went over to Leroy's house to see JJ, when Leroy walked in the room, he was like "Leroy Jackson, get the hell out my house!" and when Leroy corrected him that he was in his house, James was like "Then get the hell out your house!" 5. When JJ wouldn't back down to him when he was against Thelma becoming engaged to Larry. |
