Munster, Go Home?

Does anybody know if Munster, Go Home was originally wide screen?

I can't imagine Universal shooting a motion picture in the TV sized format? I saw it in the theater in 1966, but that's been a few years and I can't remember if it was or not.

All we see these days are the edited to fit your television versions. If it was wide screen, and providing it is included in the second season, I hope it's reproduced in that format. We haven't seen the whole picture for quite a few years.

I only know this...

The Good Times DVD version of "Munster, Go Home!" are in normal TV version, not widescreen.

Also, I once heard that "Munster, Go Home!" was supposed to be a TV movie, set to air on CBS in Aug. 1966. But because the show was cancelled, they turned it into a theatrical production.

P.S. When "Munster, Go Home!" was sent overseas to be played in European movie theaters, they decided it was too scary in color, so they re-copied the film in B&W, then they showed the movie in the European theaters. Universal probably let Good Times use an edited for television copy for their transfer. It'd be the format that best suited their targeted audience. It just seems to me it was wide screen when I saw it, but I just can't remember for sure.

I have no reason to doubt you, Munsters#1. I'm just not sure where the image you attached originally came from, (Yes, I know it comes from the Land of Fun site.) There might have been a Munster, Go Home 8mm home-movie-type film released. The Munsters products page lists a couple of 8mm films that it could be. Or maybe from one of those toys you hold to the light and crank to see the movie. For a while there, the Munsters was a hot property.

When I was growing up, we had an 8mm camera and projector and the film was pretty small. If you had a picture bigger than three or four feet wide, it was almost impossible to get clear. That's the only reason I doubt it's from a German movie poster. I would think that Germany would have a little fancier projectors than 8mm for movie theaters. I'm not saying it can't be, just doubtful...

From "The Munsters Television's First Family of Fright", by Stephen Cox:
"Directly after the series's cancellation in 1966, the cast and crew assembled for yet another Munster adventure, a nearly two-hour Munster motion picture to be filmed in Technicolor.
Producers Connelly and Mosher exhausted quite a bit of money on the original show. The cost of doing the show had escalated, so the producers decided a feature release to the theaters might retrieve substantial funds to offset that deficit."

Of course it doesn't mention if it was wide screen or not...
