Hoaxes?

What UM stories are hoaxes? I can't believe the wyricks' story is a hoax.

I only know of two, although I'm sure there are others:

1. The story about the woman who claimed her dog could sniff out dead bodies.

2. The "Guardian" UFO case - an anonymus informant known only as "Guardian" supposedly videotaped a UFO landing in Ontairio, Canada. The hoax was exposed by the Mutual UFO Network (MUFON).

Any details of the Gurdian UFO case? What did MUFON expose? I thought the video was real. It always looked like something other than a normal craft, maybe something expirmental. A weblink would be great...

I think they said it was a pick-up truck with a strobe light attached. Here is a link to the articles:

Click on "The Carp Case - A Review". There are six parts. I found them all very interesting.

For what it's worth, I contacted Bob Oechsler about ten years ago and paid $30 for a copy of the unedited Guardian tape. I'm so disillusioned...

Hey! I think the story of Tina Resch was thought to be a hoax. She was the girl who claimed to have psychokinetic powers and things would move around her house if she was near. (I remember eggs hitting the refrigerator door and the phone flying across the room in the segment.) I don't know if she ever admitted to faking it (there is a book out there about her) but the articles I've read seem to think she wanted the media attention so she could find her birth parents. I also read that one time after she broke her leg miraculously the powers stopped! I know she is in jail now for killing her child.

This was known at the time. She was caught on at least one occasion intentionally knocking a lamp over. This incident was mentioned on UM. It seriously damaged her credibility in my opinion.

The two disc jockey's from (was in Nevada?) that had a friend call in for a publicity stunt pretending to be a guy that had just killed his girlfriend... that was used to boost ratings. I think the DJ's names were Keith Baxter and Kevin Rider. The radio station recieved a ton of calls from people that thought they might know who the killer is. When it was later confirmed that the whole incident was a publicity stunt, (they updated the UM segment) it was said that both DJ's were temporarily suspended from the radio station and ordered to do community service for police time spent on the bogus case. They were then able to get their jobs back. And the guy that called in pretending to be the killer was also hired to the radio station as a DJ.

So much for toying with people's lives.

Why the station didn't FIRE them, and the FCC didn't FINE and BAN them from EVER working in radio again, I'll never understand! That extended stunt truly was obscene broadcasting!

The foil girl...the girl who "grew" foil like matter on her body. I swear I recall that being found out to be a hoax tho she appears in the 2005 Believe it or Not (NOT!) book. Its been discussed here before, was there hot glue involved or something?? Ye gads......

Honestly, I thought about her as I scrolled down this thread. I remember the gold foil having been on her stomach and it looked so nasty to me. When I first saw that story, I actually believed it but after those two women did that experiment with foil in which looks similar, I started to doubt it.

She also has the ability (supposedly) to drop a certain type of jewel from her eyes.

Those two DJs are certified idiots, so is the guy who called in and pretended to have killed his girlfriend. THEY may have thought it was entertaining and funny but that's a lowdown and stupid way to boost ratings.

justins5256, thanks for the UFO link about the Guardian UFO. Very interesting, the video always looked real to me. On your copy, can you see the windsheld wipers? I also thought I would return the favor, so here is a link to the Bentwaters UFO story. A very good article about it being something other than a UFO encounter. The article says that the officers involved have two different stories, one right after it happened, and one later. After reading it a few times, it looks like they were seeing the Oxford lighthouse.

Kind of funny, but if some of these stories are fake, why are they on the DVD's? John Cosgrove said they only wanted real stories, yet some of these are in the boxed sets. Maybe they should have searched the internet a little more...

but the bentwaters case always seemed to me like the most well documented and credible ufo encounter. i think to dismiss it simply as the lighthouse could be considered criminal...

I'm sorry, but I don't remember. It's been so long since I've watched the video. The only thing I remember about the "Guardian" tape that looked even remotely fake were the pictures of the aliens. I don't think they showed this on UM, but after the main part of the video (the craft) there was about 15-20 minutes of absolutely horrible quality footage of a very fake looking alien. The picture kept rolling and wouldn't track for maybe more than a few seconds at a time. I think "Guardian" said this was because an electromagnetic field given off by the aliens interfered with the AGC circuitry of the camcorder (right...)

I also had a chance to read the documents Oechsler received with the original "Guardian" tape. They were total BS.

The whole thing would have been a lot more credible if "Guardian" hadn't included the forged government documents and the footage of the alien.

Thanks for the link on Bentwaters. I'll check it out. I remember hearing on Sightings (remember that old show?) that there was film footage of the Bentwaters incident as well, but the government wouldn't release it; a fact not mentioned on UM. I think they did eventually release the Halt audio tape though (which I've heard).
