try going to Control Panel/Appearences and Themes/Display/Settings/Advanced/Troubleshoot and set the hardware acceleration to full. that might be the problem.

Direct3D is a subset of Microsoft DirectX, which is basically a set of software protocols game manufacturers use to standardize game creation. It was first included with Windows 95 in 1994.

The newest version is 9.0c and is available for Windows 98/ME/2000 & XP at www.microsoft.com/directx

You can also download DirectX 8.0a if you are on Windows 95, and you can tweak your way to DirectX 5 (with some 6 subsets) if you are on NT 4.0.

Now, Direct3D or "D3D" allows games to directly access the video hardware. Are you getting direct3d errors? If so, it may be that your video card is just too old.

Hardware Acceleration is a feature which allows the graphics card to do some of the work, thus reducing the load on the CPU.

What specific message are you getting, what O/S are you running, and what version of DirectX are you using?

To find out, go START>Run

and type "dxdiag"
(without the apostraphes) & press ENTER

That should load the DirectX Diagnostic Tool.

...I can't resist. Domo Arigato, Mr. Roboto.

And now that I've got THAT out of my system...If you're having the error involving that, chances are your video card doesn't support 3D Acceleration. (DirectX or Otherwise)...there's really nothing you can do about that. In order to get rid of that error, you'll have to buy a new card, IIRC.
